NICK RITCHIE TRADED

Love this!!  I figured if Ritchie went to an Eastern team then he would score a hattrick every game, pummel our toughest guy and be everything we hoped he would be.

Lyabushkin is a decent RHD that has liked to hit in the past.  I don't think Dzingel is going to score 20 for the Leafs like he used to in Ottawa but a solid depth pick up as well

Thanks Bbd.

And they took on all his salary?

Cap implications:

Basically, we saved cap space for next season (Lyubushkin is also 1.35M and expires this season).

Scouting:
Dzingel is familiar to Leafs fans from his sens days. He is a former 7th rounder turned bottom-6 mainstay on bad teams. He might give our 4th line a reasonable LW option if Engvall needs to move up. Likely a healthy scratch if the roster is healthy.

Ilya Lyubushkin is a one-way RD; that one-way is no shots for anybody. So reliable depth stopper (PK) but you'll probably hate it if/when he touches the puck. Insurance should Liljegren falter.

I think one guy is $1.1 MIL and the other is $1.35 MIL so combined they are actually cheaper that Ritchie.

Sending Liljegren down and having Lyabushkin take a RHD spot makes the most sense at this point I would think.

Wondering about Dermott being moved though...

I was actually worried that we would have to retain on Ritchie which does NOT seem to be the case.  Wow!

I think Dom is missing the point that Dubas is out from under the Cap Hit next year without giving up the farm then I would quote him  "adding to defensive style depth players."

Yeah, freeing up next year's cap a bit and setting a higher floor on our depth options at forward and defense, taking care of a mildly disgruntled UFA signing in one smooth move.

Lyubushkin coyld be a sneaky good find.  Not a lot of exposure playing in the desert, but has played decent minutes on a crap team and is only a -6.  He also seems to have a physical element to his game and I have found highlights of some open ice body checks...an element of play that our d core lacks currently.  My guess is he will push Lilegren back to Marlies.

gunnar36, I am thinking along the lines of ZBBM.

I think this is the beginning of a couple of smaller trades to correct some depth issues.

I don't think they want Liljegren down on the Marlies until the playoffs.  If they trade Dermott and regain space in the process so Liljegren comes back up they have a 4/3 mix of Lhd to Rhd instead of 5/2.

What do the leafs d pairings look like?  Does this help with the 2nd pairing at all?
Not sure how much it helps. Leafs need a puck mover to play with Muzz. Don't know how good Lyubuskin is at that. He's a PKer and defence first guy so maybe you let Muzzin lose a little more? He's bottom pairing at worst I believe.
I think Dzingel goes on waivers

At the end of the day this is a cap move no? Did anyone really expect to get an impact player for Ritchie?
