Yeah high 3rd in a really deep draft.

I hate playing this game, but he was picked one spot ahead of Reilly Smith who is on pace for 20+ goals and 55+ points this season. Toronto boy too.

Shucks.

What makes it better is he was drafted in the 3rd round based on 5G 12A

Very few players outside the top 10 have played well to be honest with you. Reilly Smith is definitely an anomaly.

I don't know, I'd say there's definitely been quite a few that have done well. A lot of those guys are still in the midst of breaking out.

Picks like Biggs and Devane still have me shaking my head.

I honestly keep forgetting that Devane was picked in the 3rd round.

He was a roll of the dice?I'm good with rolling the dice in the 3rd round?not so much in the first round though.

How is Devane a roll of the dice?  Isn't a roll of the dice situation where you pick a highly skilled but flawed player in the hopes they put it all together?  Devane's a straight up enforcer.

There are a couple guys taken shortly after him that are already quality contributors to their NHL teams. Devane is unlikely to be that, and it was pretty clear he was unlikely to be that on draft day. There were better options.

What's the Biggs deal?

That is a very good question. Although in fairness, at the time it was thought that Biggs had some offensive upside. It wasn't made abundantly clear that he doesn't until some time afterwards.

But it does beg the question as to why the organization would choose to use its valued picks on low upside type players.

Colin Brown.

Won CHL scoring race.
I have not watched him too often, I saw him once in North Bay.
Does anyone think he will play for the leafs. He is rather small.

It's Connor Brown.  I've been wondering about this guy as well, seemed to come out of nowhere with 128 points in 68 games.  He's also already 22 years old He's only 20, I looked up the wrong Connor Brown LOL..., so either he's a late bloomer or maybe he's just too small for the NHL?  Would be nice if he actually becomes a good Leafs player.

He's not 22, he's 20.  You can't play in the OHL at 22.  Overagers can be 21.

EDIT: I see you figured it out.

I totally blame Google, they put his picture with a footballer's info who happens to be 22.  I quickly glanced at the age without even noticing he played football and was born in the UK..lol

Winning the OHL scoring title as an older junior doesn't necessarily mean much. A number of guys that never amounted to much have done it. I'm optimistic about Brown, and he could just be a late bloomer, but, he could also be another Peter Sarno/Sheldon Keefe/Corey Locke/Robbie Schremp/etc. I guess I'm just saying that we shouldn't over-rate this accomplishment. It's great and all for him on a personal level, but, in terms of it being a predictor of future success . . . well, it ain't one.

He was a 6th round pick, so unless scouts were totally wrong about him, he probably won't be a significant NHL player, if he makes it at all.

Odds are stacked against him, so Leafs fans should just have low expectations and if he ever develops into an NHLer consider that a huge success.

My understanding was that he had shown some ability to play...he's a huge guy, so I think they were hoping he could put some game together.

He obviously showed some ability in 2011-12 with 45 points in 59 games, but he's got nothing for the AHL/NHL level.  I actually didn't think he looked too bad on the fourth line when he played up a few games...he's got some speed.
