Well, that's reason #3 to watch these olympics... #2 was women's field hockey (Dutch team) and #1 was women's hurdles - In case you're not keeping up.  :)

The Floyd were included in the opening ceremonies too

Damn. Wish I had known.

They didn't perform but there were a few Floyd snippets of sound <the clocks at the beginning of Time during the fly-by of Big Ben as well as Eclipse playing at the end / climax of the ceremonies>...a floating pig was added to the fly-by of Battersea...

Nick Mason to perform at London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony

The 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony featured a couple of direct Pink Floyd references - specifically, the pig over Battersea Power Station, the clock tower of Big Ben having spinning hands with the Floyd's Time accompanying it, and at the firework finale, Eclipse being played to stunning effect. Other Floyd references included things like the hospital beds, akin to those on the cover of Momentary Lapse.

Elsewhere, during the female gymnastics on Tuesday, a Romanian athlete used Shine On part 1 to do her routine to. The music was performed by another artist and was tailored and edited to the routine. It was described by the commentator as 'A mood piece'!

Singer Ed Sheeran has now gone against normal protocol and revealed a small part of the normally secret plans for the Closing Ceremony (Sunday, August 12th, from 7:30pm BST). He has told Australian radio station Nova that he will be one of the performers, with an interesting backing. "I'm playing the closing ceremony - which I think is kinda cool right? A lot of people think that I'm doing a song with The Who but I'm not - I'm doing a song with Pink Floyd. I'm doing 'Wish You Were Here'."

Sheeran then confirmed that in actual fact, it would be Nick Mason, and not Pink Floyd, that would form part of his backing band! Neither Roger nor David will be participating. Other artists reportedly taking part include The Who, Take That, and George Michael.

Boo!

The Stone Roses' biographer: 'Reni rejoined the band because the new songs sounded so good'
John Robb says the band have been writing 'psychedelic pop songs' for the past six months

The Stone Roses' biographer John Robb has spoken about the reports that the band are planning a 2013 release for their new studio album and has revealed that the reason drummer Alan 'Reni' Wren actually agreed to rejoin the group was down to the strength of their new material.

It was reported earlier this week that the band were planning to release a new album next summer and Robb has confirmed that Ian Brown has told him they have a clutch of new songs.

He told BBC 6Music: "I have bumped into Ian Brown a couple of times and he said they have new songs. And they've signed a two album record deal so you'd kind of figure that they do have new stuff. Ian Brown described them to me as psychedelic pop songs. And people I've spoken to who have been in the rehearsal room say that the new stuff does sound really good."

Robb then opened up about Wren's reasons for agreeing to rejoin the band and said that it came after he heard new songs that singer Ian Brown and John Squire have been writing.

He said of this: "At the press conference I spoke to Reni who said he had new songs but he wasn?t sure if they'd make it onto the album. When Ian and John first met for the first time after the funeral [the funeral of bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield's mother] they started writing songs and those songs were given to Reni and that is what persuaded Reni that he wanted to go back with the Stone Roses because the new songs sounded so good."

Robb also wrote on his own website Louder Than War that he believes the plan is for The Stone Roses to record after they finish their summer tour and release the album next year, possibly in time for slots at Coachella and Glastonbury Festival.

It is also strongly rumoured that the band will play a secret gig later this week for Adidas to help celebrate the Olympic games, though no details on when or where that will take place have emerged as yet.

The Stone Roses will headline next month's V Festival in Chelmsford and Stafforshire as well as Northern Ireland's Tennent's Vital Festival.

I hate to say it, but I find Noel's solo gigs to be rather boring.  I'm sure live it would be a great time, but listening from afar I get bored quickly with it.

Shoe-gazers...after seeing a show like The Wall I understand where you're coming from. Oasis weren't much of a live act the difference being Liam made things interesting. Noel really loves those shuffle beats eh

Yeah, I just feel like it loses energy from Oasis, and I'm not as into Noel's voice in a solo electric setting for an entire show.  It works well in a smaller, acoustic setting, but I don't think it's as suited to big shows.  I have the same issue with the album.  There are some great songs on there, but I feel like the way it is produced lost a lot of the emotion in the song.  There's a great Oasis soundcheck version of 'Everybody's on the Run' with just Noel by himself, and I prefer it to the released version, even if it lacks sound quality.

That's why Beady Eye & High Flying Birds will never match the Oasis magic - sadly it's probably going to take them 10 years to come around and figure this out.
Noel's acoustic sets have always been a highpoint of Oasis shows - I remember the show I saw at Maple Leaf Gardens in '98 he did Don't Go Away / Talk Tonight / To Be Someone <Weller> / Whatever...brilliant

Good to see him perform again!

Neil Young & Crazy Horse do their Ontario shows in November and I don't get home until mid-to-late December.  >:(  Other than seeing Neil Young live, which I've done, my other big dream gig is Neil with Crazy Horse.  First time in 9 years and I'll miss them by a month.  >:(

The article seems incorrect too - or implying something incorrect:
Gallagher told XFM that he was offered the chance to play the Oasis song himself, but he couldn't lower himself to lip-synching?unlike some lesser people who may or may not share his DNA. ?I?m all for miming in TV shows,? he said, ?but if you?re in a stadium with 80,000 people and you?re pretending? I can play live!?

Liam's voice was live, the backing tracks for the bands were all apparently pre-recorded.
