Official Music Thread

Oh, and the AVclub did their best music of the year feature here. Not for everyone but there's definitely good stuff to be found there.

Thought I'd post this here....

Madonna, along with some other music acts, is slated to headline  the 2012 Super Bowl halftime show. However, the choice of musician headlining the halftime show certainly didn't please Gene Simmons, bassist and lead singer of KISS, who had this to say....

Kiss member Gene Simmons and War founder Howard E. Scott unleashed verbal assaults this week on other acts.

Gene Simmons
Simmons, the bassist and vocalist for the legendary band, said Madonna is not appropriate to perform at Super Bowl XLVI. When asked for his opinion on the matter, Simmons had a sarcastic response. "I love all karaoke singers," he told TMZ. "I like all the girl singers who get up and sing with tapes. Shame on you."

Simmons, whose band performed at the Super Bowl in 1999, said artists who lip-sync misrepresent themselves to their audience. He suggested that entertainers who sing over vocal tracks inform their audience beforehand.

"I don't care what your music is, have some integrity, be real, or full disclosure before the fact," he said. "Hold up a sign that says, '70 percent of what you hear is fake. It's a tape. I'm a karaoke singer.'"

Madonna has not responded publicly to Simmons' insults.

I dunno Gene....she may or may not lip sync but at least you can't buy a Madonna coffin...or lunchbox...or underwear...did Gene Simmons seriously just rip Madonna about musical integrity?

I feel like downloading some new songs, anyone got any good suggestions?

What kind of music are you into?

I don't really have a genre, maybe rock if I had to pick.  The one thing is I really don't like rap where they just go on about how awesome they are and country.  I like new things so anything people are into is good :D

How about a band / album you probably never heard of? I won't steer you wrong.

I've been on a blues/rock kick for the past few days. Stevie Ray Vaughan and ZZ Top are getting a huge chunk of my time. Well, SRV always has you know what I mean...

Look up Gary Clark Jr. for some new bluesy stuff.

Or for older stuff....the original Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac.

Thanks guys... anything else along those lines? I've got some some very long and likely very dead shifts coming up and should have bags of time for listening...

That'll keep you going all night. Pick an era / tour / mood and zone out.

Anyone going to see Tool at the end of the month? I've been trying to track down tickets but they're so bloody expensive.

I'm not sure why it is that sad people listen to sad songs, but I could listen to Rosie's Lullaby by Norah Jones forever. That and Blue Rodeo's "What is this Love?"

They're moving in different ways, but both hit me to the core.
