Anyone going to see Tool at the end of the month? I've been trying to track down tickets but they're so bloody expensive.

Yep I'm going to the ACC show. 85$ all included, which, compared to most rock concerts, especially at that venue, seems like quite a reasonable price to me.

I've been a fan of this guy's work for awhile. He goes by the name of OrtoPilot and does mostly covers. Very unique voice and singing style. Check it out:

Jealous! You must have managed to get tickets when they were on sale? I missed the window and am staring at much higher prices than that, $85 is about a quarter of what I've seen available.

Yea we got them when they went on sale. Granted they are a little high up so not the greatest seats but I can't imagine paying 200$ plus for a concert.

Black Keys tickets at the ACC are in the low-mid hundreds. Absolute gouging!

A little birdie pointed me in the right direction, there's maybe a decent seat for $150 but still seating for $95. Left floor, row 5, right floor, row 6 were $1,000.00... holy f.

Left floor row 11, $370, probably the best deal I found, still.

Thanks l.b.! ;)

They're making up for all the time they were poor indie artists.

That being said, they do put on a good show and the Black Keys concert at Molson Amphitheatre in the summer was one of my favourite concert experiences I've had.

At the Drive-In has reunited

The high school me that just missed out on the opportunity to see them is rejoicing!

Anybody listen to Brad Sucks?  He's from Ottawa and is doing something a little different, open source music.  You can download his music for free;

http://www.bradsucks.net

Of course if you like the tunes, you can donate money or actually buy the CD's.

I'm trying to arrange a rock-ish version of Mr. Rager by Kid Cudi with my band.

Would anybody wanna listen to this? Haha

We also play Crabbuckit by k-os, Smile Like You Mean It by the Killer and a whole bunch of originals. As soon as we get enough free time to make a recording I'll post it online somewhere, but I'm wondering what people think of rock bands with heavy techno/house/dance or hip hop influences.

I'm sooooo bored of straight rock tunes now.

Anyone got any bands/artists to recommend? I like Survivor, Frank Stallone, Robert Tepper etc. Not sure what to call the style really. But I like that "backstreet" music.

That style would be called "The Rocky Soundtrack" haha.

No seriously, that is called a few different things.  "Melodic Rock", "Arena Rock" or "AOR".  Tons of music from late 70s, and 80s fall into that category. Some contemporaries of Survivor would be Styx, REO Speedwagon, Night Ranger, Foreigner, Journey, Starship, Billy Squier, etc.  Younger bands at the time from that 80s era that also produced very good melodic rock in that vein would be Honeymoon Suite ("The Big Prize" is a CLASSIC from the era),  Bon Jovi (ala "Slippery When Wet") and quite a few other bands.

I would recommend going over to http://melodicrock.com, hitting their Noticeboard and asking the same question there.  Those guys could come up with a million answers for you.
