Sarge this is a good one for you too, The Stone Roses, album is called "Second Coming". Released in 1995.

Ferret - Took a while but I finally gave it a listen. I quite enjoyed it. I found it to be rather contemporary (which isn't a bad thing) and there's a feel there that I really dug... Thanks.

Got a real Zep feel to do it eh. A great record for guitar playing - Squire burns.

Well, I have to settle for air guitar but yeah.  :)

I meant the guitar playing on the record is great....any standout tracks or have you not listened to it too closely yet?
Air guitar!

Ran through it all once... I'd like to do it again. First time around the opening track kind of stood out to me.

Cool intro eh. The album gets better each time you listen to it - each song has a great groove going. The drummer <Alan Wren> is all over the snare. I can't praise these guys enough it's fantastic that they're touring this summer. If I had to pick a favorite I'd go with 'Daybreak'...

Yeah... I wasn't sure where it was going but I liked where it went (if you know what I mean.) Actually, I think it's the drum work (almost by itself) throughout the album that make it more contemporary. It's almost as though they'd be a more traditional blues/rock band if the drumming was well, different.

These guys started the trip-hop Brit-pop thing in the late 80s / 90s - guitar / vocals over a dance-beatish pocket. A lot Oasis songs from their heyday use this trick - Colombia / Supersonic etc. Plus they still sound contemporary because they influenced a lot of the music coming out of the UK now / still - Arctic Monkeys / The Muse / Coldplay...

Man, old Metallica is so good.  It must have sounded insane to hear it when it was first coming out back then, Hetfield's voice is unreal.  It just has such a dark, heavy edge to it all too.

I was a huge Metallica fan. I've seen them live more then 10 times before the release of the Load album.  The Black album was a big change but I still really dug it.  I was really pumped for the next album when I heard it was coming out. A local radio station previewed the entire album the day before its release and I sat down excited to listen to it but so was disappointed that I didn't buy it or anything else Metallica since then. It kind of felt like when you found out there was no Santa or Easter Bunny.

I still love everything from 83 to 90. Puppets was the first album I bought in 86 and it still rules! It's amazing how I still know every lyric, tempo change, solo in those long crazy songs.

I couldnt agree more! Although, Death Magnetic was pretty good too. I did buy the Big 4 Sofia DVD and was not at all disappointed in any of it. Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica were spot on ... well produced and well played.

I'm sure we all know who stole the show.  ;)

I really enjoyed watching Mustaine and Broderick together. I think Broderick may be the best partner Daves had, better than Friedman.... Hes still got it after all hes done to himself....

Decided to pony up the cash and go to the Big Wreck concert in May. I didn't realize how much I like their music!

Also: Pierre Bensusan is coming to Toronto. You'd be an idiot to miss out on the DADGAD master if you like acoustic guitar. The guy is a friggin genius.

Levon Helm isn't doing so well, hope he gets a fun last request.

Really sad news, thought he had beat cancer in the early 90s, but I guess it returned.  One of my absolute favourite voices, and the "Rambles" he did at his place in Woodstock were great.  Have a DVD of The Black Crowes performing their last album live at his place, it's awesome.

Potvin, I bet Levon would take a couple decades against the original prog, I hope he's got enough left to have some kind of blowout before it's over.

I'd like to see that Black Crowes vid...

Look for their "Cabin Fever" stuff on youtube.  Here's them covering The Velvet Underground from it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf9-BCix4io

That was sweet, thanks.
