Goodbye Robin Gibb....

http://news.ninemsn.com.au//article.aspx?id=8470706

The Bee Gees will always be my favourite group.  I have fond memories of Robin, Barry, and Maurice Gibb.  Their songs, their music.  Sadly, only Barry Gibb is now the lone surviving member.

There was a sense of respectability about the brothers Gibb.  They did have problems in their lives, as many musicians do, but, still, they were a respectable musical group.

Rest in peace, Robin, and, thank you for making many a fan happy.

Very surprised to hear this after he recovered from the coma!

I just played my first three song set at an open mic night down on Ossington/Dundas at the Painted Lady. Nerve wracking as hell, and I think my voice teetered a bit but ended up being lots of fun :)

Good for you! I'm completely confident as a guitar player in front of people now ( though that's from years of live shows ) but I've never been the main vocal at a performance, lots of back ups but that's not the same. I'd be nervous too if it was just me singing.

Roger Waters adds Quebec concert to 2012 Wall tour
Written by Matt

Plains of AbrahamThe Roger Waters tour of The Wall in 2012 has - this afternoon - been extended by one additional show, which at time of writing, concludes the tour, one week after the Washington DC concert which was to wrap things up.

The concert, on July 21st, 2012, will take place at les Plaines d'Abraham in Quebec City. The Canadian venue is a historic area within The Battlefields Park that was originally grazing land, but became famous as the site of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham, which took place on 13 September 1759. The park is today used by 4 million visitors and tourists annually for sports, relaxation, outdoor concerts, and festivals. It is no stranger to concerts. Between 2008 to 2011, a series of concerts took place in the park, including performances by Van Halen, Sir Paul McCartney, Celine Dion, Rammstein, Sir Elton John and Metallica. Later this year, Madonna also appears in the park for a sell-out show.

The RogerWaters.com presales begin next week, with a limited number of advance tickets available to those who have registered their interest in this particular city. General sale tickets will go on sale shortly after through Ticketmaster.ca and other normal agents (exact dates and outlets can be found via Roger's website). The public sale will also see a limited number of VIP packages made available for each show on the tour.

UPDATE: Roger has been talking about this show, and it will feature a wall that's a staggering 800 feet wide - the widest wall ever! It takes place on the anniversary of the 1990 concert, and Roger promises a show like no other. Here, he's talking about it:

I was at the Rise Against/A Day to Remember show at the ACC a few weeks ago, wicked show. I'm not a huge fan of either band (I can hum you a few bars of a handful Rise tunes), and I normally HATE the atmosphere at the ACC, but the A Day to Remember was one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. They've got Gumby running around shooting tshirts into the crowd, a thing of balloons falling on the floors, the frontman comes out in a giant clear plastic bubble and sings while he's running around on top of the crowd. It's just so surprising to see that kind of energy from a group playing the ACC.

The jerk usher guy standing at the exit was a pain though. I swear to god he said to a group near me "Hey! You! Stop being so loud!"...at a concert...

Anybody give Bangarang by Skrillex a listen? Man, this dubstep stuff is wicked.

Played a set with my drummer for the first time last Monday. I think we killed it. Nerves totally dissipated after the first 10 seconds of the song, I was too busy concentrating on hitting notes. Maybe I'll post a video next time, I'll probably be playing after work on Monday too :)

Nice one!

Neil <w/ Crazy Horse> is coming to Ottawa in November - I'll have some of that

I'll move back to Canada roughly 1 month after his Canadian shows with them.  Pretty upset about that.  Neil & Crazy Horse is the pinnacle of the live Neil experience (which is amazing btw).  Seeing him in 2008 was probably the best show I've ever seen.

Yep - you're jealous.

I couldn't get this Beatles song out of my head for the last month since hearing it for the first time so I decided to make a cover. First attempt at vocal harmony - although I did follow a tutorial on the song on youtube :) (Only put on some reverb and EQ, all separate vocal harmony tracks).

I think I could do a second copy and do it better, but I don't think it's too bad. Criticism/feedback appreciated :) Hope you enjoy listening as I did putting it together!

Saw the Roger Waters Wall concert tonight in Toronto. I had already seen it when he came through in 2010 and wanted to go again.

It was fantastic... again.

Nice - you take any more photos this time around?

Have you heard any of the rumblings about Gilmour recording a new album?

Wish I was there. Looking forward to the release of the Story Of Wish You Were Here on Tuesday.

The previews look great.

Had a few buddies in Manchester tonight attending The Stone Roses first gig in 16 years, very jealous to say the least.

That's pretty awesome. I'm not one for old-timers shows or anything but if they came through I'd probably try to go.
