Official Ottawa Senators Thread

I wonder if the Pacioretty thing takes Vegas out of the running. They still have the cap space but they're pretty low on the picks/prospects that you'd assume Ottawa would need.

Dallas seems like a sure bet at this point, especially with Bob saying it's likely a Western conference team.

That said - it's possible a team might pull the old 3-way switcheroo like they did with Hoffmann..

I mean I agree that Dallas is as good a bet as anyone but Vegas is in the WC too, right?

Well yeah, but like you said - I think Patches takes Vegas out of the Karlsson sweepstakes, unless they're interested in Karlsson just for this year and not signing him to an extension.

I'm not so sure it's that definite. They have 9 million in cap space right now and that's with Clarkson on the books. They will some tough decisions next year with having to then extend both Karlssons but I don't think signing him to an extension would be impossible.

I actually thought when Vegas traded for Pacioretty, they'd double down and go hard after Karlsson as well.  I'd imagine Glass still being the centrepiece, and they do have youngsters like Tuch and Brannstrom they could include.

I think Ottawa is more interested in getting rid of Ryan along with Karlsson than adding pieces.  Whoever can take both will get him.

That's  interesting because I sort of thought that the reason a deal hasn't been done by now is that the interested teams were fairly reluctant to part with their big prized prospects(so Glass in Vegas, Sergachevin TB, Heiskanen in Dallas).

Hearing that things are moving again and that there's motivation from Ottawa to not let it bleed into Camp makes me think that Ottawa might now be considering a deal around a second tier prospect. That's one of the reasons I thought Vegas might be in a tough spot because I thought Suzuki was a better fit in that sort of package than Brannstrom.

Is that Karlsson or did Melynk get Borowiecki to throw on a wig?

"Yeah, uh, Mr. Melnyk, one of the things that I, Erik Karlsson, keep hearing is that the players in the dressing room don't like me and really want this trade thing to be over with and that the team will be much better once we only have team-first players and we'll definitely contend for a Stanley Cup once a selfish player like Erik, I mean once I'm no longer here. Your thoughts?"

Someone pointed out that San Jose doesn't even have their 2019 first round pick.  I'm bracing for an underwhelming return...

Wait, not bracing....

Hoping.  Yeah, that's it. :P
