Official Ottawa Senators Thread

Someone pointed out that San Jose doesn't even have their 2019 first round pick.  I'm bracing for an underwhelming return...

Wait, not bracing....

Hoping.  Yeah, that's it. :P

Their prospects aren't even that great either. This return is gonna be amazing (for everyone except Ottawa).

San Jose was the team that had literally only cap space to offer Ottawa.

Josh Norris is Brady Tkachuk's BFF.

San Jose doesn't currently have a first for 2019, so this is... something conditional.

Melker Karlsson better be one of the players coming to Ottawa...

Disappoint.

SAN JOSE, CA - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has acquired two-time James Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Erik Karlsson (@Erikkarlsson65) and prospect forward Francis Perron from the Ottawa Senators.

In exchange, San Jose has traded forwards Chris Tierney (@Tierney71) and Rudolfs Balcers (@rudolfsbalcers), defenseman Dylan DeMelo (@ddems2), prospect Josh Norris (@joshnorris10), and a conditional 2019 second round selection and a conditional 2020 first round draft selection to the Ottawa Senators (@Senators). If San Jose re-signs Karlsson, Ottawa receives a conditional 2021 second round selection.

The lack of video game announcement is also disappoint.

I gotta say, this is a very strange condition.

LOL Hoffman Clause

Edit: Dang it, CJ beat me to it

Great trade for SJ..Terrible for the Senaturds...Never even got back a high quality NHL player. Could you imagine the Leafs trading Matthews for this return?

What an awful deal for Ottawa. Yikes. A couple okay prospects, a couple okay middle of the roster players, and a late first, a late second, and maybe another pick (though, odds are they get the 2nd rounder for EK re-signing with San Jose, but, that's probably it).

Carlton, should we spin up a Trade thread, or should we just keep dunking on the sens here?

Hearing that things are moving again and that there's motivation from Ottawa to not let it bleed into Camp makes me think that Ottawa might now be considering a deal around a second tier prospect.

Or, you know, 3rd or 4th tier.

Per Ottawa's press release

Ottawa receives San Jose's first-round choice in either 2019 or 2020 (not lottery protected); if the Sharks miss the playoff in 2018-19 it will be a 2019 selection, otherwise it will be in 2020.

I wonder if maybe the pick they're supposed to send to Buffalo has the opposite conditions?

Yeah, if the Sharks make the playoffs then Buffalo gets their 2019 pick. Pretty sure they're making the playoffs.

Yeah. That seems pretty likely. Just an excellent trade all around.

There are going to be some epic battles in the West this season...trotting out Karlsson, Burns and Vlassic on your back end ought to strike fear into a lot of opponents.

Wow, the Sens put a condition that if the Sharks trade Karlsson back to the East, they'll get an additional first round pick.
