Oh thank you

Looked good:
Robertson, Marner, Cowan, McMann, Holmberg, Lorentz, Ekman-Larsson, Tanev, Stolarz, Murray

Looked okay:
Kampf, Reaves, Pacioretty, Tavares, Benoit, McCabe

Looked iffy:
Rielly, Domi

  • Robertson and Cowan looked better (though Cowan needs to start putting the puck to better places on the ice).
  • I really like Lorentz on that 4th line. I think he could move up and down the line up fairly easily.

I liked Lorentz game but I'm really leery of giving him a roster spot and then waiving one of Holmberg/Robertson for a guy who can't score.  Every year we keep going back to the same problem in the playoffs where the team can't score.

Having Reaves, Kampf and Lorentz on a 4th line seems like a perfect way to struggle to score.

very impressed with Holmburg, we can't sacrifice him for Max. Also Robertson, OEL, Tanev.
Rielly may end up our whipping boy, cause we just have to have one.
Max was Ok but I fear he may run out of gas somewhere down the road.  I believe if Matthews had played last night the score would have been a lot more one sided.

I'm sorta resigned to the fact that the 4th line probably isn't going to be able to score or defend because of Reaves. So may as well play into his strengths and have a line that will hit stuff and create energy. That's how Reaves had at least some success in previous places like his stint in Minny or with Vegas.

Lorentz would be able to assist with that, while also being somewhat of a positive defensive player as well. Not sure where he fits once Dewar comes back though assuming he's also playing LW.

Lorentz did score 2 playoff goals in 16 games last playoffs. Not bad, considering the 7 minutes average ice time he was getting.

I think Lorentz has more offensive upside than what he's being given credit for. He can skate. He's a big boy. He showed that he kind of has hands. I actually think he brings almost everything that McMann does for half the price. Now, McMann wouldn't be someone I'd get rid of to make room for Lorentz, but I'd certainly be dressing Lorentz before Reaves. Yes, I know that Reaves is a righty, but you're still better off with Lorentz on that wing.

He?s played more than 200 games in the NHL, and has a total of 21 goals. His offensive potential in the league is pretty well established. He?s also 28, so it?s not like he?s a developing kid. Hasn?t scored at a high rate in the minors or junior, either. At this point, he has enough professional experience that it?s unlikely he shows meaningfully more offence than his track record would suggest.

He?s a solid 4th liner. If he chips in a handful of goals while not being a defensive liability, that?s great.

Yes. You are correct on all fronts. Upside was perhaps the wrong term. My point is that he'll bring more offence than Reaves and his skating ability coupled with his size makes him a good fit for the 4th line. Dewar has very similar stats and the only item he is ahead of Lorentz in is his age. Lorentz is certainly a long shot to make the team(based on the log jam at LW) but I think he brings as much, or more than a lot of the players currently being auto pencilled in for the 4th line. Especially at league minimum if they decided to keep him.

Honestly I think he makes the team. I don't know how that all gets sorted out but I'm expecting him to sign..
