Preseason GDT 2: Leafs vs Flyers L4-0

To slightly change the subject, whenever I come to Canada I revel in your culture by going to Tim's as often as possible.  But I have never understood why a bowl of soup and a chocolate donut is considered a lunch combo.  To me, donuts must be consumed strictly between the hours of 4am and 10am.

Doughnuts are a 24 hour a day food, and don't you forget it!

I would have never considered doughnuts for breakfast. More of a mid-afternoon snack.

No offense, but you guys are weird.  The only way to savor donuts is by washing them down with breakfast beer.  Now THAT's a 24/7 source of nutrition.

Donuts are good between 4-10am, when you've been drinking the entire night, passed out in some dark 'how did I get here' spot, and you've been walking home and need something to eat.

By the sounds of this tread, worried about 1st line chemistry as it's one of the keys for a successful season.

Colborne is about where Kadri was 2 years ago.  You see the potential, but he needs more seasoning.

Kadri, OTOH, is about where Grabovski was 2 years ago.  And Grabovski is about where Crosby was 2 years ago.  And Crosby is where Lemieux was ca. 1995.

And Komisarek is where Tim Horton currently is.

Uh ... deceased?

It's like a dessert portion of the combo. Soup/Sandwhich, Coffee and Doughnut. Really hits the spot. All this talk is making me hungry, not unlike Dustin Byfuglien.

Who said anything about nutrition?

Oh, OK.  That makes some sense, I guess.

And yeah, this discussion is getting me all Big Buff too.  Since it's another 6 hours til 4 am, I may have to rustle up some German Chocolate Bundt Cake with the coconut filling running lustrously through the portion nearest the "crown."  Nummers.

And Busta: Fat IS the keystone component of nutrition.  Don't let some quack "doctor" tell you otherwise.

That was the joke about Komisarek's level of play, yes.

Granted, he didn't look good (but no worse than Schenn).  OTOH his bang-em-up style of play is sort of verboten in preseason, I'd say.

You'll want to focus on the neglected food groups such as the whipped group, the congealed group and the chocotastic!

Kadri looked really good.  Blacker alright.

About it.

Hope for a better effort tonight.

The Leafs should just give the media the ol' Carey Price:

?I still don?t feel good, I still need to work on a lot of things throughout these games. (Tuesday) night might not go that great.?

Trying to evaluate talent in a game played as poorly as that one is tougher. Again, it's only one preseason game so my comments need to be taken with that in consideration.

The puck seemed to roll or bounce more than usual. Had me wondering how good the ice was. I thought Colborne's bad pass was the direct result of a rolling puck for example. They seemed to have that problem in the first game but not as much as last night for some reason.

In spite of the four goals, I thought Reimer looked pretty good. No softies. Some very good saves. Most of the goals were virtually unstoppable.

Komisarek had an opportunity to take charge and settle the troops down. Didn't happen. He looked similar to me as he has since he came to Toronto. Ditto for Finger. Schenn looked like the Schenn without Kaberle version. Gysbers doesn't belong. Saw the odd positive in Blacker but the game was such a mess it's tough to conclude much. I even tried to watch some of it a second time without further enlightenment.

I realize these guys are supposed to be pros and versatile but Wilson confounded me a little on why he had to go with six right handed shots on the D. Some of those dmen were probably playing in a less familiar position - which would be a bit of a drag if it's their one shot to stay longer with the club. [sarcasm]Maybe Schenn, who played the night before,  was more important to Wilson to face his brother to sell tickets![/sarcasm]

Kadri deserves an A for effort. But if I were him, I'd do a little less trying to beat the bigger dman and a little more distribution of the puck. Those moves are tougher to make happen for a smaller player on the wing. Part of his learning curve I guess.

Don't mind the concept in general of trying Connolly on the point during the PP but Kessel has been starved for a center. Didn't work well last night for whatever reason. I'd stick with Connolly at center on the PP for now while they try out Franson and the others.

I personally liked his:  'It's pre-season.  Chill out!'

Saw some game hghlights, and, it looked as though the Leafs defence was a 'step behind' or we can say sluggish, in chasing the speedy Flyers.  While none of the goals were Reimers fault, it looked once again that the Leafs relied on Reimer rather than provide him with the proper support.  Ok, it's still early in the pre-season, but a more thorough effort is what the masses would like to see come next game!

Kadri must certainly be intent on locking a roster spot, as he has been playng with an 'attitude'.  Good for him.

Yeah Kadri had some jump and has been throwing the body around the first 2 games.  He's taking these games seriously as he should.  If he keeps this up he's made the team.

I know Wilson's talked about it, but I think/hope it will be more of a plan B type thing during the season. It probably only happened during last nights game because there weren't many other options. Phaneuf and Liles are almost guaranteed to get the majority of the PP time, and you don't put a guy like Connolly on the second unit.

So I just get in and see a #55 Leaf jersey....before I could actually read the name I quivered in fear just a little.
