Preseason GDT 8: Leafs vs Red Wings L4-2

The shot of Grabovski walking into the dressing room was a little encouraging - he didn't appear to have a limp. Hopefully it's precautionary.

On the other hand, I am starting to be a little concerned about Reimer......

He's had some troubles in the pre-season, but most of tonight's goals were blown defensive coverages in front of the net.

THe last goal was Lashoff deflecting the puck as opposed to actually blocking the shot, hanging Reimer out to dry.

I'd blame him on the wrap around but that's it.

This week mandate how to kill a power play 101
They might have to bring in a consultant for this one....... ;D
Well, as many as 3 defencemen dressed tonight might not be dressed on opening night . . .
well there isnt a full compliment of red wings starters out there either. its just one coaches system against anothers

Yes, but not all these guys are actually playing their respective coach's system properly, which is why they won't be in their team's opening night line-up.

I know what you're saying, it just seems as if we're making excuses for him.

And we're less inclined to make excuses for Gustavsson.

Well that's mainly because Gus has positioning problems. When a goal is a direct result of that, there's very little to excuse.

Reimer tonight, and in other games, has been relatively solid positionally. Gardiner was AWOL (although standing right there) on another.

Reimer won't be outstanding every night. He wasn't last year but he will provide the Leafs a good chance to win on most of them.

On a side note, it looks as though Gardiner needs some time in the AHL for his defensive game. He's not terrible, but ATM he'll cause as many goals against as he'll be in on.

My thoughts as well. I know everyone's impressed by his poise with the puck and the offensive side of his game, but, the defensive side needs a fair bit of work before he should be inserted in an NHL lineup on a regular basis.

Anyone with a link to cbc feed for those of us who outside Canada who can't get it directly?  >:(  Or a link to one of those IP masking deals?  Thanks.

(I am forewarned about Healy.)

Just turned the game on - what happened to Grabovski? Has Reimer been in for all 4 goals?

Grabovski seemed to take a puck off his foot/ankle and is done for the night. And, yes Reimer has given up all 4 goals.

Interesting. Thanks!

CBC should have a yes or no mute option if you want to hear Glen Healy

I think I'd extend that to Jim "Take that Ben Eager" Hughson with his 'fakes/takes' and Craig Simpson's frequent reminders that the Leafs need to avoid a slow start in October and November if they want to make the playoffs.

I guess that's why I do find myself using the mute button. Makes me appreciate Bob Cole and Harry Neale when they were in their prime all the more.

heh.  Healy went to Western Mich.  That tells you a lot.

Note to self on Saturday nights: Kill volume on TV and listen to the radio. Healey is intolerable. I can't believe I went to all this effort to get the game on TV here.

Did he go on and on about the new Leafs assistants the way he fell over himself because Detroit hired a new assistant?

Also, I haven't been watching, has Detroit got a penalty tonight?
