So it turns out Mitch Marner can play playoff hockey?

Apparently just needed to be yelled at instead of swaddled with soothing sweet nothings

I mean, as soon as Nylander said 'quit crying' Marner has been playing very inspired hockey. 😕

Seriously, a slightly tougher coach might be what the core needs.  When Maurice went all-volcano last year it helped the Panthers.

I think these sort of gut check conversations come better from teammates. And even better from respected teammates. EVEN BETTER from someone who is being paid more. Coaches can only say the same thing so many different ways.

Reaves mentioned in his recent return from injury-exile that there were times he wanted to speak up in the dressing room, but he was sporting a -11 in 11 games or something hilarious.

If Nylander, whose head is gloriously devoid of anything other than playing hockey, walking his dogs off-leash everywhere, and the occasional debilitating migraine, finds it necessary to pipe up about simplifying your game, then yeah, that's probably very meaningful.

1 game.
Exactly... lot's of work needs to be done to rewrite the narrative.

I would say Herman that this is the exact problem, not enough chaos, instead of every touch of the puck requiring a stop puck and decide what to do with it, bash it at the friken net will ya, lets work off the rebounds.  Which is Burts go to and Knies it seems.  Just keep peppering them with shots.

Shots yes, but not the Jason Blake special into the crest. Lesser skilled shooters sometimes just aim for the middle by default so as not to miss the net. Higher end shooters coming down the wing feeling a bit confident might try to pick the corner but miss and the puck bounds out of the zone for a free clear.

We need shots that make trouble for the goalie and the defense. Like not likely to score on its own but will definitely kick out a rebound into another attack lane. Successful teams attack together and shooters will sacrifice their own percentages as individuals for higher percentages as a line. Marner has a tendency to fish for perfect looks for Matthews, which is just too easily disrupted. I?m still waiting for a Robertson rebound to turn into a Jarnkrok tap in off a pad save.

I like the fat bald guy whipping off his cap in disgust after delivering the double birdie.
