R1, G5: Lightning @ Leafs - May 10th, 7:30pm - CBC, TSN 1050

I think Cooper's comment tonight (and the one he made before the blowout where he said he wasn't worrying about scoring on these guys) are as much for the consumption of his own players than the Leafs.  You know he has to be rattled, down inside, that ?ber Vasi hasn't shown up yet.

With knowledge of the final score, this game day thread was a blast of a read with hindsight ;D

I love how there are some "one post" guys that ripped the team at 2-0 and then disappeared for the rest of the thread.

For those counting, that's 12 GP, 9* G, 4* A in  (13pts) the last two playoff series

* Yeah, I'm counting that first goal as Willy's, even though it was more galvanizing for the team/narrative that Tavares got credit.

Matthews' GWG last night was the same type of goal he scored last playoffs: bank pass off the pads by Marner (2022) / Holl (2021)

Brilliant deception by Marner

This team will be the death of me. Hell of a 3rd period.

Honestly.  What a rollercoaster of a game...of a series.

It's exhausting.

Lots of ups and downs and back and forth . Not too different from some on this thread? On the bandwagon off the bandwagon. And then back aboard by the end. They had to do some sprinting and we had to slow down the wagon, but?most were able to climb back on. Lol

A comment from Cooper in his post-game address, courtesy of MLHS:

I think Toronto, after two periods, had three 5-on-5 shots. If you are going to tell me, ?Hey Coop, we are going to hold Toronto to three 5-on-5 shots in two periods of hockey?? Now, fact-check that, but I think that is what it was.

The Leafs only had 2 5-on-5 shots in the 1st period, which I mean is undeniable bad but they had 12 in the 2nd period (to Tampa's 8 ). I'm not really sure how he was so far off there.

The 1st period was in fact two periods, obviously. Last night was a rare 4 regulation period game.

That Rielly goal was just vintage Tavares. He's got some moves.
Great puck control and pass by Tavares, and it was shocking that Rielly was left so open for so long. Rielly was hauled down from behind on the zone entry with no call, of course, as well.

If Cooper?s number were right, which it obviously isn?t, it would mean that Tampa gave up 15 shots when NOT 5-on-5 through two periods, which would be laughably bad.

Obviously too engrossed in the team's comeback to post. Right? Right.

Not that it matters for the end result, but look at how Bunting is completely literally tackled from behind while making the play. Just bear hug brought down to the ice.

I liked this. Tavares is most dangerous with the puck, so hopefully they can find more ways to get him pucks in dangerous spots instead of having him carry (or retrieve) outside of 5/4 v4 situations
