Komarov's awesome. Why didn't Orr and McLaren do that at any point in this game?

I also wish that someone had crushed Boychuck for his awesome hit on Grabovski too.

Are you kidding? Orr pushed him real good.

I know that, but I was looking for either an open ice hit or a KO in a fight.

The weird thing about Rask is he looks so unsettled and scrambly in net yet is also stable to make most of the saves that need to be made.

There was a smidgen of sarcasm in my post.

This is what I would do Saturday:

JVR-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Frattin
McClement-Grabovski-Kulemin
MacArthur-Colborne-Komarov

Gunnarsson-Phaneuf
Gardiner-Franson
Liles-O'Byrne

Other than the top line and pairing which are pretty much set in stone, I'd say I'll get one combination right (Liles-O'Bryne).

I think Grabbo's looked better today than during the regular season

Grabo has looked great most the season but he is a lone wolf out there, nobody to help with his strength of moving the puck forward. Holy shit though, that man can take a hit.

Up until this game I liked having Orr and McLaren in the lineup....I believe if other teams take liberty with our smaller/skilled players then they should be nose to nose with an enforcer at the next possible chance. Ferrence elbowed Grabo and I dont think he got one fist in his face at all....If I were GM id be looking for 2 new players during the summer...if you are incapable or unwilling to do what you are paid for then you have no purpose...and I will find someone that will.

A few observations from my perspective:

I thought Grabovski had quite a lot of jump.  That's a good sign as we need him to have a chance.  Kessel needs to figure out a way to get more chances to score.  We need his offense to win the series.  If he doesn't score, they can't win.  I have said it before, but I don't think Lupul has recovered from his concussion -- not close.

Our defence was exposed -- if we had suitable replacements I would sit both Kostka and Fraser, but I don't think you can put both Gardiner and O'Byrne in.  I think the speed will kill O'Byrne.  I would try Jake to see how he does.

Hard to lay any blame on Reimer -- 40 shots.  The only one he might have had was the Boychuk long-ranger.

What continues to be a big concern is our forwards inability to have any sustained pressure or cycle game.  They are not going to score many goals on the rush.  Even if they reduce all the turnovers (Kadri was particularly bad tonight) without more offensive zone time I don't think they can win.

I do think nerves and inexperience played a role.  Hopefully that is not much of a factor, if any, on Saturday.

@reporterchris

Randy Carlyle promises changes to the lineup for Game 2.

Orr and Mclearn were the best line for the last period and a half. that is why are getting played.

the rest of team better wake up or this is done in 4

I really am perplexed how Boston can look so dominant at both ends of ice so consistently.  Their forecheck  is smoothering and relentless.
Man to man is our personnel that overmatched? Or are we getting outcoached? The sad thing is that I think the effort was there...

Maurice was just on TSN That's Hockey 2Nite and said in '09 Boston hammered them in Game 1 (4-1) and then they won 3 straight.

Don't give up all hope yet.  8)

I think the Leafs were flat. They were spectators, and assisted on Bruin goals.Have no idea why their breakout's were so lame.
They do this pretty good, but tonight they were inept.
Anyway hope they get it together. Speed kills the Bruins, so throw in some speed. Gardiner would do that. Pared with Liles i think they could do some damage.

Game 1. Done.

21 - 84 - 81
19 - 43 - 39
47 - 11 - 41
16 - 42 - 38

36 - 3
51 - 4
24 - 23

Gotta get Grabovski on the ice more. This is where he needs to earn that 5 mil. Bozak is hurt. It's obvious. If he's not 100% there is not point trotting him out there for 16+ minutes a night. He can still take faceoffs apparently so use him in key situations only.

Franson says he'll be fine. Foot is very sore but believe he can just ice it and rest over next two days.

Phew.

The Leafs didn't test him all that much. He didn't have to make a lot of difficult saves. That needs to change.
