Then they are stupid. They won't tear it down.
Ya same sob story each year. Just admit you suck when it matters most.I'm angry. I'm really fucking angry. I think I'm going to take a few days before I pay any attention to Leafs stuff because I don't want to hear anything from these guys.
Then they are stupid.
They don't need a rebuild or to blow it up. A major move, yes. Then they are stupid.
Everyone should be considered with the core. I get it Matthews is an elite scorer and some think there’s no way of trading him. Why? Year after year he disappears hurt or not. He doesn’t seem like a leader in my opinion, and I question his team first. Getting back to the Houdini act. What makes any of you think that’s going to change? Great to look elite in the reg season but when you’re the highest paid player and you don’t make any kind of difference most nights in the playoffs I’m sorry he can go to.No, they will tear it down. No way they can get away with not doing that.
Well...there is going to be a few days to let this simmer. I feel Shanahan blocking Dubas from moving Marner before his NTC clause kicked in was the biggest mistake in the Core 4 Era. He needs to be held responsible. Tavares is skilled and passionate but looked a step behind in these playoffs. He isn't a $6 MIL playoff performer anymore. Would be a great 3rd line center. Rielly and Nylander have NTCs. The rest of the D and goalies seem solid.
Marner has GOT to be gone after this playoff performance.
let's see what Treliving does...
We can run through a whole litany of mistakes over the years, and there have been plenty. But right now the bottom line is this was right there for the taking and they were simply unbelievably awful from the get go. At home.Yeah. That one hurts. I mean it was the absolute, very last moment they could've done anything to move the needle -- and you wish they'd have had the sense to call it somewhat sooner or at least refused to spend all those picks, as if they were really one Nick Foligno from the Cup -- but if you can't avoid original sins, you can at least get religion before it's too late.
making Matthews captain was a huge mistake IMO. He's already more about himself than the team and he simply does not have the leadership skills Tavares does. If the pressure in Toronto is too much for him, then making him captain made that worse. I wouldn't be sad to see him go.
and up until now, I've always been a Marner supporter but his constant whining and moaning have run the course here. Nylander was right to call him out on it. 'shut up and play the &#^%ing game'... wouldn't be sad to see Marner go either.
A couple years ago I would have been on Nylander's case too, but he's manned up some since then.
Knies stays.
retiring the bears for the season now......
I think it had everything to do with contract negotiations, Tavares' pending free agency and the fact that Matthews was coming off a 69 goal season and being the teams best player. I still think they were going to give him the C before that security guard thing popped up in the offseason. We obviously don't get to see what goes on behind the scenes, in the locker room...but I've had the feeling that giving the "C" to Matthews was more about trying to push him to another level rather than being based on him being a leader. Probably unfair to judge from the outside but he just doesn't seem like someone who inspires others.
