R2, G7: Panthers @ Maple Leafs - May 18th, 7:30pm - SN, TSN 1050

Honestly, how? How can they have played such a good game in Florida's house and then turn in this complete POS at home? At HOME. And the second time in the series?

It is almost beyond comprehension.

No, they will tear it down. No way they can get away with not doing that.
Everyone should be considered with the core. I get it Matthews is an elite scorer and some think there’s no way of trading him. Why? Year after year he disappears hurt or not. He doesn’t seem like a leader in my opinion, and I question his team first. Getting back to the Houdini act. What makes any of you think that’s going to change? Great to look elite in the reg season but when you’re the highest paid player and you don’t make any kind of difference most nights in the playoffs I’m sorry he can go to.

Well...there is going to be a few days to let this simmer. I feel Shanahan blocking Dubas from moving Marner before his NTC clause kicked in was the biggest mistake in the Core 4 Era. He needs to be held responsible. Tavares is skilled and passionate but looked a step behind in these playoffs. He isn't a $6 MIL playoff performer anymore. Would be a great 3rd line center. Rielly and Nylander have NTCs. The rest of the D and goalies seem solid.

Marner has GOT to be gone after this playoff performance.

let's see what Treliving does...

Yeah. That one hurts. I mean it was the absolute, very last moment they could've done anything to move the needle -- and you wish they'd have had the sense to call it somewhat sooner or at least refused to spend all those picks, as if they were really one Nick Foligno from the Cup -- but if you can't avoid original sins, you can at least get religion before it's too late.

We can run through a whole litany of mistakes over the years, and there have been plenty. But right now the bottom line is this was right there for the taking and they were simply unbelievably awful from the get go. At home.

There's no getting around the fact that their best players can't handle the pressure in Toronto. I'm not sure anyone can. I can guarantee you that a very small percentage of people in Florida really give a hoot about the Panthers and hockey in general. Leaf fans want it so bad that it really does make it harder for the team

With every collapse the whole psychological burden gets worse.

They objectively are a better playoff team than the bubble year squad that barfed up a glide path to the finals. But once again the result is the same.

They have to blow it up but it's hard to see how they are ever going to break through.

It literally does not matter if you rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. Even Matthews should be fair game. The core is tainted and they will never get the demons out of their heads until management plays hardball and becomes ruthless like Vegas.

Time for Shanny to go. Its been 10yrs. I'm ready for the fire sale.

After a night of sleep and watching some post game shows and podcasts , while sad it's also good to finally see everyone is on board that this team just isn't right. First one to go has to be Matthews, he's weak, he disappears every playoffs, he has to go.
Can fans sue Shanahan and Dubas? Lol

Really? There's nobody that thinks we should "run it back" again cause talent will eventually come through? There's always a handful, I'm surprised if nobody is campaigning for this again.

making Matthews captain was a huge mistake IMO. He's already more about himself than the team and he simply does not have the leadership skills Tavares does. If the pressure in Toronto is too much for him, then making him captain made that worse. I wouldn't be sad to see him go.

and up until now, I've always been a Marner supporter but his constant whining and moaning have run the course here. Nylander was right to call him out on it. 'shut up and play the &#^%ing game'... wouldn't be sad to see Marner go either.

A couple years ago I would have been on Nylander's case too, but he's manned up some since then.

Knies stays.

retiring the bears for the season now......

We obviously don't get to see what goes on behind the scenes, in the locker room...but I've had the feeling that giving the "C" to Matthews was more about trying to push him to another level rather than being based on him being a leader. Probably unfair to judge from the outside but he just doesn't seem like someone who inspires others.
