Reimer Injury

It's funny to see all the media banding together on Twitter over the Reimer thing.

It's nothing new, the sports media all stick together, none of them ever seem to have a bad thing to say about another.

On TSN radio they were all over Wilson for his comments about Feschuk's article and no matter who was on, it was "He's just doing his job" or "It's called journalism, Ron".

I just think it's funny how offended or upset they all seem about it.

If there's no update on Reimer, there's no update.  Use your journalistic skills and write a compelling article or report on something else, it's not the only story out there.

And really, that article sucked.

Wait for intermission today, I'm sure we'll have a couple more defenders.

They touched on it during That's Hockey tonight, and they all seemed to support the Leafs' side of things, actually.

Savvy move on Wilson's part. Someone contacts Reimer's family and the family criticizes the Leafs and Wilson criticizes the reporter for contacting the family and ducks the issue.

At the same time it's kind of funny. The mother said something to the effect of "How can concussion like symptoms not be a concussion?"

I mean, even the parents are adding fuel to the fire. I can't imagine the team lying to everyone about him not having a concussion. According to a recent TSN article he passed his baseline test well also.

IMO there's a reason why they called it concussion-like symptoms - because some of the symptoms are shared with a concussion, but it's not a concussion! "How can flu like symptoms mean it's not the flu?" Well... it could mean meningitis.

Returning to the ice "soon"  ;D ;D

Of course, "soon" could mean in 6 months.

Yeah but the lack of headaches is a good sign. He passed his baseline. I mean, no offense but the Leafs medical staff know a hell of a lot more about James' condition than his parents.

Yeah, actually I think it's rather disgusting. Family members ought to be off-limits.

Yup... sleezy if you ask me.

I was actually taken a little aback when some media guys (inc. Ron MacLean) were defending this on Saturday.  :-\ Milbury the only sane guy on the panel? What has the world come to?

I mean really, unless she's a doctor she has no business making comments on his condition. She doesn't spend nearly as much time with him as the medical staff do, no offense. And now the flames have been fanned, for what? To reiterate that he's injured? To read about a mother's maternal instinct in wanting to protect her child?

She's no doctor and can't make an informed decision, but the most troubling thing I took from the article is the fact that she talks to her son all the time, and when she asks him when he thinks he'll be back and he says "I have no idea"..yeah, that's not good.

All in all though it was a crappy article to write.

All I can say is I hope the NBA mess is resolved soon so Feschuck will stop covering hockey.

The worst part of the NBA lockout to me is basketball guys (fans and media) thinking they know about hockey.

Exactly.

Although we could say the same for a lot of the hockey writers too.

I have no issue with reporters going to the parents.

Even if it ends up being somewhat a sensationalist, baseless article that serves no journalistic merit?

Like I said: What will you learn? That the parent cares for their child? There wasn't much in there new, but probably led to more panic and more questions to how the Leafs were handling Reimer, which doesn't help the situation at all. Like I said, it ends up being flame fanning, that's it.

I like Ron, but this has damaged his rep. i cant believe he was ok with nagging the parents. that is just wrong. i for one hate the press, but i put up with them untill they get stupid like that. Milbury is right on and i wish i was there to help him, not that he needs it.

Excellent piece (gasp, I know) by Damien Cox on this so-called parent trap:

Actually, I wasn't particularly a fan of it and found it a rambling diatribe against the Leafs for having a media policy.
