Round 1: (M1) Pittsburgh vs. (W1) Columbus

Got to hand it to the Blue Jackets for their tenacious never-give-up play.  What have they got to lose, all the pressure is on Pittsburgh.  Besides, no one expects Columbus to beat the Penguins.

Judging by these past 2 series games,  that may be a very real possibility.

Pittsburgh 4  Columbus 3.  Penguins lead series 2 game To 1.

Carrying a two-goal lead going iinto the second period just couldn't sustain itself for the Colombus Blue Jaokets, as the Pittsburgh Penguins turned on their high octane offence and put the game away, while goaltender Fleury provided solid netminding  the rest of the way.

"It's not ideal, especially when it's 2-1 and you fall behind (by two goals) again," said captain Sidney Crosby. "Typically, it's not the way you win hockey games. But it showed a lot of character and a lot of patience."

After being swept by Boston last year, all they did to address that was get Stempniak. They defence is not good. Their goaltending is atrocious.

Columbus could have easily tied it yesterday what could have been the best solo effort by Dubinsky on a last minute rush had the puck not skipped on him.

Watching Columbus right now it's very hard to reconcile the idea that making the playoffs is the line between success and failure.

What a stinker Fleury let in. Brutal. Can't imagine why Pitt has been so patient with him all this time.

I'll admit, every year I think "this is the playoffs where Fleury proves he's a top goalie", and yet every year...

I used to feel the same way about San Jose, but, I got over it.

Just watched the highlights. I'd say Fleury may be on his way to being done as a Pen. First his screwup that led to the tying goal, and the OT winner was just pure sieve (Toskala style). Based on his playoff performance the last two years, I don't think he will recover and the Pens could be in danger of losing this series.

I can't figure out why Pittsburgh doesn't do something about their goaltending. They are wasting Crosby and Malkin in their prime. I guess they tried with Vokoun. I'm not sure what his status is at this moment.

This year at the trade deadline, Miller was available. I know he hasn't been lights out with the Blues, but he has some game in him.

Was there a cap issue that kept them from bringing someone in?

PR_NHL: CBJ/PIT is first series in NHL history in which four consecutive games have been won by a team trailing by two or more goals. @EliasSports

James Reimer??

Kinda random, but I didn't realize how good of a season Malkin had this year. 72 points in just 60 games. That's a 98 point pace which would have put him 2nd behind only Crosby in scoring.

Both Crosby and Malkin have four assists each in this series. That just doesn't cut when you have two super stars like that.

PS. Fluery sucks. He is beyond bad. The tying goal was all his fault. He decided to play hero behind the net instead left the net wide open for Dubinsky. In overtime, he played like Toskala only worse.
