Sabres @ Leafs - Mar. 19th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

No doubt some of those players will still be here in five years, but Kypreos was probably referring to never-trades.

Marincin heaving some very nice up ice first passes.

Maybe, but from a "franchise" (tm) perspective, I'm guessing they consider only Nylander and Reilly in the stable.

He was only talking about the 11 players that have started this year, and he said that probably only one of those 11 ( probably Nylander ) and maybe 2 are in the long range plans of the Leafs.  While it's possible that he is the only player that stays with the Leafs for and extended period of time, I would like to think that of Sparks, Brown, Guathier, Loov, Valiev, Leipsic, Hyman, Froese, Nylander, Soshinikov, and Kapanen, that 4 or 5 of those players would be with the team for an extended period.

Did anyone else catch the part where Kypreos said that of the 11 players that have made their debut this year, only one, maybe two are in the Leafs long range plans?

While I don't think they are all in the long range plans, 2 seems a little low.

Yeah, seems a bit premature but then again identifying a solid core is the goal, and they should be pretty selective to that end.

Sure you want to identify the core, but that doesn't mean that you can't have guys like Loov, Valiev and Hyman on the team.  I'm not suggesting that these players will be first liners/top 1-2 dmen, or anything, but they could still be a part of the long range plans.

Yeah, I agree considering how early the Leafs are in the stages of a rebuild, but I also see the sort of ruthless long term view of a successful core. I don't mind the thought, but I don't think we really know what those 11 players are yet.

I think it's a stupid statement.  WTH does he know in regards to what some of these kids may still develop in
to?  It's a major troll job.

Leivo really looks like Lupul out there.

Similar game.

And he's been in the lineup over his career about the same amount of time as well!

That's just absolutely believable.

Just don't look it up. Anyway, I know another guy around here disagrees, but I think Lupul is done as a leaf. It wouldn't surprise me if he's played his last game.

This Rielly-Marincin pairing is registering pretty high on the awesome scale at the moment.
