I kinda want them to bring Parenteau back next year.
Ya I was thinking the same thing PAP with the rookies may not be a bad thing, he is very intense and saw it when the Leafs played the Coyotes here this year. He is a very smart very intense kind of guy.

It's nights like tonight that kind of make you excited for the future, even in spite of wanting to remain calm.

Toronto officially eliminated from the playoffs with Detroit's win tonight.
Marlies clinched a playoff berth earlier in the afternoon.

But why remain calm?  That's so ... adult.

Babs had a comment last night about addressing team toughness and how they've been a little feisty since the kids came in, he said it was something they are going to absolutely address this summer.

I keep coming back to Lucic and as others have previously pointed out, he is almost certainly a boat anchor waiting to happen.

There may be some physical UFA defensemen out there too...Polak and Schenn on that list.

I would prefer to deal with it the way we did last night: take it to the scoreboard.

Quite impressed with the way Greening, Michalek, Smith, and Laich (and Parenteau, Grabner, and Boyes) just go to work. They generated significant minutes in the offensive zone that just sapped the fight out of the Sabres.

Yeah, Backes and I think Okposo too.

With the people in charge, I feel like they'll only go after guys that can actually play the game while having an edge.

Babcock's Detroit teams always played hard, but weren't known for fighting really. I mean you could attribute that to Holland, but I think through 10 years that team was largely by Babs design too.

Okposo
Lucic
Backes
Ladd
Ott
Prust

Mitchell
Polak

Some guys they might be looking at, Okposo, Backes and Lucic would likely be good for a couple more years, but it would seem like they are at risk of breaking down as they age due to the game they play. At that point(probably when the Leafs are realistically starting to compete), you're paying a bottom six power forward 1st line money.

I agree, it would be nice to have some protection around the kids though. Especially if it's someone who can actually play the game.

I hope the scouting/analytics department might be able to uncover someone who can handle themselves and actually play well, but who is perhaps trapped in an enforcer role on their current team and needs some extra opportunity to be more than just an enforcer.

Yeah that'd be ideal. A cheap vet with possession play and some protective snarl. Dicky Clune+

I mentioned Matt Martin in another thread, Eric Gryba could be another, both ufa this year, though I don't know if they qualify under the 'analytics' purview.
