So Leafs are just gonna walk away from Samsonov's contract if it comes in too high?

They'll only be able to walk away from a contract if the number comes in higher than around $4.5mil, which it almost certainly won't.

😬

Again, he's not getting over $4.5mil. I'd be pretty stunned if he was even awarded something over $4mil.

So we're talking LTIR for Murray?

If Sammy gets anything over $3m+ I don't think a Murray buyout will create enough space.

The Leafs have to have a plan here.  I can't think that they go from being able to do a pretty good job managing the cap and what they want to do with it, to being completely incompetent and having no way of becoming cap compliant in time to start the season in under 6 months.  Yes the GM is different, but ever there, the moves he has made signing players to 1 year deals probably means that he is at least cap aware.

The Leafs can run a 20-man roster with Murray bought out and Timmins+Lafferty traded/waived and afford to pay Samsonov as much as $3.8mil. If he gets just $3.5mil the Leafs could afford to keep Lafferty on a 20-man roster.

Running a bare bones roster certainly isn't ideal, but it probably beats moving a larger salary piece to fit Samsonov in.

OK, that is good news at $3.5m. I think the Leafs need to keep Lafferty. Timmins would probably clear waivers.

He's played well for us no question but I don't think he's the goalie to lead this team deep into the playoffs or to a Cup, no more than 3 mill.

It's been 48 hours!

Starting to think the NHL didn't pay the arbitrators to work on weekends. Philipp Kurashev had a hearing with Chicago the day before Sammy's and he hasn't had an award announced yet either.

I have to agree. The guy doing all the cap numbers is the same.  It seems really unlikely they would have signed Domi and then only afterwards realized they needed his cap space.  If the new GM is that dumb, Shanahan should be fired.

Well I guess I'll give that refresh button a rest then.
