SCF: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. San Jose Sharks

He's just like an everyday dude who accidentally became amazing at hockey. How can anybody not love Phil?

Hello.

And a large boo to the Sharks for that last PP.

Did they not have a timeout? I missed the 2nd but I can't imagine they would have used it then. Would have been a good time to use it before the PP started. Should have pulled their goalie right away too.

It is early in the series, but, it looks like that pick we got in the Kessel deal will be 30th overall.

I'm disappointed with that.  We should have asked for an additional pick if they won the cup.  I'm also not liking the salary retention on Kessel any more.  Oh well!

Great game. I'm in the Sharks corner but the Penguins probably deserved that one.

If either San Jose or Pittsburgh win the Cup, that's fine by me.
It would be nice though, if the Sharks fans could see their team win it, in this their 25th year of the franchise.  That would make for a great story.

Don't think either team will have it easy, judging from Game 1 results.  Goaltending and opportunistic scoring will determine the outcome, in other words, depends on which team outsmarts whom.

Yeah, me too, seeing Phil get a cup would be oddly ok but I really want it more for Joel Ward, saw him play a lot back in the day and the Sharks are kinda that team when it comes to playoff success.

I live in St Thomas and would like to see Joe win one. At 36 he hasn't got a lot of time left.

Same. Thornton has been amazingly consistent in terms of production for virtually his whole career; only knock seems to be getting deep in the playoffs. Would love to see him and Marleau win a cup.

Pittsburgh 2  San Jose 1  OT  Penguins lead series 2 games to 0.

Conor Sheary the hero this time, as the Pittsburgh Penguins take a commanding series lead in this edition of the Stanley Cup Final.

It certainly was beginning to look like the Sharks were on their way of being shut out.  San Jose, having sported the NHL's best offence all season long and continuing their dominance in these playoffs, suddenly find themselves sputtering against a determined Penguins squad that is outsmarting them at every turn.

Having lost Game 1, and not wanting to in a series deficit, the Sharks tied it up on defenceman Justin Brain's  point shot.  Overtime.  Enter Crosby...

...Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby, with a 70% faceoff-winning rating on the night, won the draw in the Sharks zone and a second later, the point shot was directed by Sheary past Sharks netminder Martin Jones into the net.

Another good effort by Pittsburgh's top lines, particularly for Phil Kessel who has been on a tear in these playoffs,  and who leads the team with 19 points in the post-season.

The Sharks will need to figure out how to deal with Pittsburgh's speed and pressure, if they have any hopes of solving the Pittsburgh riddle.

Game 3 goes Saturday in San Jose.

Oh, laughable, Logan.  Sounds more like the whining of a sore loser...

I realize it's a tough competition but the NHL's stupidest rule is still "High sticking is 2 minutes, but it's twice as bad if there's a tiny cut". Plays a huge role here again.

I've been saying this for years, but it feels like the hockey community at large has just accepted it. Doesn't make any sense at all.
