Always nice to be reminded the Leafs are still the Leafs.

Whatever. Onto the next one.

Yeah, after  47 years cheering for this team I actually had hope for them this year.

I don't have confidence in them anymore.  I will enjoy the season but I have zero expectations that they will make it to the Final 4 let alone win a series.

It sucks not being able to be excited for your favaourite team's chances after almost 5 decades.
You could just stop watching.

Goalie swimming. Empty net. Right in the hash marks. Perfect feed. Matthews to the side. I don?t see any player ever passing that up.

People always complain they overpass... then crap on them for shooting.  3 on 3...that blocked shot goes into either corner Leafs maintain possession.  Bad bounce.  Bad game.  Move on

Tavares just seems to not be enjoying hockey. He never looks happy out there. Maybe he's putting g too.much pressure on himself? I don't know what it is but the dude looks depressed 95% of the time.

Plus he keeps trying to be fancy. He just.needs to.muck it up in front of the net.

It's going to be impossible to gauge how do they really are until the playoffs.  The division is so weak they are assured of getting a playoff spot.  For this group, this year, with this playoff set-up, they have to at least get past round one.

Despite tonight I am optimistic they can get at least that far because their defense is better.

L2 has to get sorted out though.

Offense isn?t why they lost this game but our PPs are drying up.  7 PP opportunities in the last four games.  Averaging 3.25 PPs in the first 12 games.  This seemed to happen a bit the last time the Leafs started really hot with an effective powerplay where they start getting fewer opportunities and games are allowed to get chippy.  The Leafs don?t seem to do as well when hooking and interference are more permitted.  To me it?s crap but this what happens when the people playoffs come around so the Leafs need to figure their tighter 5 on 5 crap out.

This is another notch game in my ?Freddy isn?t the guy? belt.  I think he still remains a good goalie and even star goaltenders have let down games but I just see him as part of too many games where something just doesn?t give me enough confidence to expect him to go on a playoff run to help a team win a Cup.

That exactly.....

What would Wayne Simmonds do? I'll forgive this horrible collapse.... A little bit.... If they handedly win the next two. Also, JT needs to pull his head out of his ass

I really just don't know how Tavares makes a play like that with 10 seconds left in the period. Inexplicable and inexcusable. Some lucky bounces and clueless positioning from Andersen certainly didn't help either. Be nice to see Campbell back.

Can't put that collapse on Andersen. Not in the least.

Actually I mostly put it on Tavares and bad bounces and then added that "Andersen didn't help either." Not exactly a scathing criticism; just an acknowledgment that he's looking shaky.

Yeah not passing here was a choice.

Rielly had an open net too though.

Rielly open net ≠ Matthews open net

Matthews can find the smallest of openings.

Rielly has trouble getting pucks on net in general.

Rielly has been pretty meh this season.

Offensively he hasn't been that great and he's always been weak defensively.

Admittedly, I'm a goalie defender so I tend to side with the tender. I do notice that he's a little over-aggressive lately. I also think he is being overworked. Hutchinson should have started last night.

With that said, On all 3 goals in the 3rd, Toronto was caught puck watching and scrambling. Not a single player in front of the net ended up on their rear ends. Toronto's defensive zone play has not looked great all year but from the time they went up 2-0 last night to the end of the game, you could see it was off.

All it takes is one more save in regulation. I think he could've done that.

With Thornton back I wonder if the Leafs go back to the other lines they had to start the season. Namely Hyman on the checking line with Kerfoot and Nylander and Tavares playing in a more sheltered role. That was the best those 2 looked all season and the checking line seemed to be working. Maybe give Boyd a shot with Tavares to reward him for his good play.

Thornton-Matthews-Marner
Nylander-Tavares-Boyd
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Hyman
Engvall-Spezza-Vesey/Petan/Galchenyuk/whoever

I'm good with that. I think Boyd has been surprisingly competent. If was up to me, I'd put slightly older man Spezza with Nylander and Tavares.
