sens vs. Maple Leafs - Dec. 7th, 7:00pm - TSN4, Fan 590

Not sure what rule is worse over the glass or 4 minutes for drawing blood. Dumbest sh*t they came up with.

What is a matter with Samsonov?  If he is ill then next up is the Beast. I hope Woll has a strain at the most. I was just saying to my son, finally we have developed a very good Goalie, two minutes later...bamb

Woll is (probably undiagnosed) hypermobile as well as quite athletic and explosive. He has said in the past he has to work on containing himself. Changing directions a bit abruptly in that awkward position looks like a tough situation for his hip.

Here?s to hoping Samsonov feels better and about his game

A statement of the obvious: I didn't like the looks of that injury to Woll.

6th best pts win% in the league ... and they have not played well.
Strange season.

The spare parts on the D didn't have a great game.
Though Benoit & Lajoie are #9 & #10 on the dman depth chart but they weren't alone.

Samsonov needs to find his game.

I still feel the talent on the current roster is underachieving defensively some (ignoring the pts win%).

This genuinely baffles me a little hah.

This would fall back on Nik's the Salary cap makes everyone the same. Argument.

The Leafs have been very mediocre this year.  I still struggle to see a team capable of winning a Stanley Cup (with this current construction).  The teams I have probably seen the most of other than Toronto are Vancouver and Edmonton so how bad has the rest of the league actually been?

I tried to recall a season like this. I can't.

I felt they were one bad injury away from real trouble.

Sportsnet: Woll's 'brutal' injury shifts pressure to Maple Leafs' Samsonov, Jones
Joseph Woll, needed two teammates to help him off the ice.

"Yeah, it's brutal. You don't wish that upon anyone," teammate Mitch Marner said, following Toronto's bittersweet 4-3 road victory. "Hopefully news comes back somewhat positive."

The early outlook is not.

Crunching his lanky frame to make one of the more innocuous of his 29 saves during a hectic 31-shot night, Woll lurched forward in palpable pain. An audible gasp rose from the well-represented Leafs fans inside the Canadian Tire Centre.

Following a lengthy conversation with athletic therapist Paul Ayotte, Woll lumbered his arms around the shoulders of Ryan Reaves and T.J. Brodie, who helped him off the ice.

The goaltender couldn't place weight on his left leg and was later spotted leaving the rink on crutches.

"It's unfortunate, right?" head coach Sheldon Keefe said.

"He's been playing so well, and he's building such great momentum here on his season and his career. It's a setback here. Now he's going to miss time for sure. We'll determine the extent of it once we get home. But, obviously, he's the big reason why we get two points here tonight."
...
"It's tough to watch," Jones said. "You don't want to see that. But just tried to get my head in the game and get ready to go.

He was unable to put any weight on it heading back to the locker room and was seen on crutches after the game. Best case is probably weeks.

Part of the difference between Samsonov last year and this is that the team this year is not as good defensively. When you take that into consideration, Woll's numbers are pretty good.

If it's any consolation, Woll has never played a full starter's workload before, so instead of cratering in April-June, getting time off now is not the worst thing. The skaters will have to buckle down and stop farting around away from the puck.

We're lucky to have the points have and standings position we are in thanks to the loser point, even with the caveat of losing the entire bottom of our defense corps and playing shorthanded most nights. And we're not even doing it on the back of an unsustainable PDO rocket (a la Vancouver's start).

Yes, we're a core 4 injury away from disaster, but also a core 4 bender away from putting up a decent cushion. Marner is firing up again; Tavares and Nylander are steady but should be secondary. Matthews has been coasting for like 60% of games (until the third period press?), so hopefully he's feeling fresh!
