Series 35: Athletics at Blue Jays

And, the Jays take the division lead.

I don't recall ever seeing such a dramatic and swift overtaking of first.  At this point, I now kind of want to see the Yankees buried so badly they don't even get the second wild card.

First AL team to have two 10+ game winning streaks in the same season in almost 40 years!

I remember worrying about this about a month ago because the Jays had already had an 11 game winning streak and you don't get 2 of those in the same season. How were we going to make the playoffs when we'd already had our long winning streak for the year?
I'm happy to say the Jays have done the near impossible and the playoffs are suddenly looking very real.

LETS GO BLUE JAYS!  8)

Wow!  It feels so good to be #1!  It's been so long since those wonderful championship years!  Superb!

(Let's hope it lasts).

C'mon Blue Jays, all the way!!

Bearing and sticking through the thick and thin over the last 22 years is making this all that much more sweeter.  Forgot how much excitement the Jays can bring to myself and the entire city.

Over the last 3 to 4 years I've found myself having a bigger vested/excited interest in the Jays than the Leafs.  This is putting them well over and above the Leafs now.  :)

The only thing I can think of is what happened in September 1987, but, in that, it wasn't a .500 team revamping the roster and becoming a powerhouse, while the 1st place team suddenly couldn't score runs anymore. It was two really good teams going toe to toe, with one getting hot as the other cooled off.

What this has reminded me of was in '90 when the Jays were 6 games back of the Red Sox at the beginning of September and then brought it down to 2 games to end the season - but this time they did it a month earlier!

Man - This team is all sorts of wonderful.

We are doing this without Devon Travis, Marcus Stroman and for the last few games without EE.  This is fantastic.

Lost in all this is exactly how horrible the Yankees truly are.  We've made up 8.5 games on them in a little over 2 weeks - that and they did nothing at the TDL.  I think that Baltimore will overtake them as a wildcard team when all is said and done.

That would surprise me. Baltimore hasn't exactly been playing well of late, either, nor did they make any particularly significant moves - nor have they made up for the losses of Cruz and Markakis, really. They've only gained 1 game on the Yankees over the last 10, and have actually lost half a game since the All Star break. The Rays have been playing well, though, and if they keep it up, they might pass New York. They've already passed the Orioles.

Don't forget, it's a 12:30 start today.

Which is weird because that's 9:30am in Oakland!

And the Jays stay home while the A's go to Baltimore. If the A's (or Jays) were going back to the west coast, I'd see a reason for a get away day, but this is weird.
