Marner looks far more like himself tonight, especially in the third. Nylander had a nice pass, but was generally a peripheral player, like he's been since the season started. It's a shame he won't go into areas of the ice where points come from, cause he's certainly got the skill.

Muzzin was incredibly good tonight. The goal was gravy.

You mean the place on the ice where Nylander actually went in the second period and took a great shot that Martin happened to save?

That's great. If he went there more, perhaps he'd have more points. But he doesn't. He's great at possession and doing laps of the offensive zone, but he's got to take the puck to higher danger areas.

He actually also went right to the front of the net in the first and took a shot that just missed short side, I get it he didn't score so his game didn't look that good. One of those goes in and he had a great night according to the critics

You mean that danger area little diamond in front of the net that Willy leads the team in shots from, that area? You must have missed this earlier. And Marner, minus a few good shifts in the 3rd had a terrible game.

I looked at Marleau's game sheet. Almost 17 minutes, 0 shots. I don't even remember him carrying the puck on any play. He's probably not suited to play back to back. I mean he's 40 but then again I saw Thornton do some things tonight

Mitch and Matthews filled him up at dinner lol.

If Kerfoot finished off this sauce, you?d remember Nylander.

I was fully expecting the Leafs curse after the Babcock comments on Marleau and have Marleau go off for like 3 points but he just doesn't have it

Especially after they showed Justin Bieber behind the bench - but finally the Bieb's Curse is broken!

He let us in on that secret last year.

On another topic: what in the world is an "expected goals mark"?

Very Kaberle on that play. I wonder if Nylander IS Kaberle, converged to a winger as we always dreamed he would be.

Now, I think it was azzurri who suggested maybe coming back with Andersen again tomorrow?

Normally I'd say no, but only 15 or so shots against tonight and few of them dangerous.  I just might.

Nope. Gotta think longer term.

I disagree early in the season and quiet schedule next week. This will be the second time we play them on the back end of a back to back with Hutchinson in net and the Habs rested. Divisional games are more important. He should have started tonight and gone with Andersen tomorrow. Unfortunately Babcock puts no thought into who to start in these situations.

One of those fancy stats where they have models based on how many shot attempts you make and the location on the ice where you make them they can come up with a number on how many goals you'd be expected to score.  They have averages on how often goalies are expected to make saves based on where the shot comes from etc.

I cannot even muster the energy to laugh at that assertion.

I was so annoyed when Millen said "that goal was ALL Rielly!"

What? what? What about the part where Nylander lugged it up the ice at warp speed then did some fancy dangle fakey slide thing and used gravity/bent space-time to pull in defenders before making the pass?

They won. Frig man there is no pleasing anybody. If they lost with Hutch in net tonight you'd be bitching about him too. Jesus Christ.
