So the debate begins: Matthews vs. Laine

If we draft Matthews, sign Stamkos, keep Kadri my fear is will Willie be upset that he is not playing his preferred C position. Won't be a problem with Marner at all.  What I don't want is crybabies on this team. Oh forgot Lou will not tolerate C.B's nor Babs.

I think it was also Gerald Ford who first said, "Expropriate the expropriators!"  That was before he switched from the Communist to the Republican Party, of course.

Is that better?

Well, it's not something that Thomas Jefferson ever said and typically that's how quotes work.

See, it's under "Misattributed".
How do you know that Thomas Jefferson didn't quote that? Gerald Ford might have thought he was Jefferson.

Mike Babcock on the decision on who to draft 1st overall:

"It's exciting for us. We've all spent a long time watching these players. [Maple Leafs director of player personnel Mark Hunter], in the end, that's why we pay him the big bucks, to make that decision. I'm sure we'll all have some input. But we're excited."

Maybe I'm just reading a little too much into this, but it sounds like he's saying Mark Hunter has final say on who to draft. Last year that seemed evident as this was a team without a GM, but for that to be still true with Lou on board would be a huge vote of confidence in Mark Hunter. And considering how highly everyone in the organization talks about him it wouldn't be all that surprising I guess.

Yeah I've noticed that comment in the past from Lou as well. Everyone has very specific roles, but they are always collaborating leading up to the decision.

If you hire a guy you trust you should trust him to make decisions.

Watching Laine play against Canada is making me like him even more. Hmmmm... Stamkos + Laine?

Matthews has been invisible out there.

Yeah, I mean, Matthews would have to skate in circles sucking his thumb out there before the Leafs are going to pass on him in favor of anybody else.  The rest is all just sound and fury.
