So the debate begins: Matthews vs. Laine

HHHYYYYYYYYPPPPPEEEEEE

Apparently he wasn't allowed to play in Zurich until he got a high school diploma and hit 18. So during his very busy 17 year old season of tournaments and travel, he took the road less travelled to ensure he could play the game he loved.

McKenzie suggesting Winnipeg may not take Laine #2.  I trust Bob has some insight here, I wonder what he's hearing.

Sure they won't.

As I said in another thread- Puljujarvi was the better player at the WJHC.  He was the engine that drove that Finnish top line.  Take recency bias out (WHC, Finnish League Playoffs) and you'd make a case Laine is behind Puljujarvi.  Don't forget, Puljujarvi also pretty much put the U18 squad on his back and won them a gold medal this year too.  He's no slouch.

Laine just crushed it in a men's tournament, and was most recently in the conversation about being a legit threat to Matthews at #1 overall.

You can get cute later on in the draft, but they'd have to really dislike something about Laine's character to skip over him.  I don't think there's any question on who the better hockey player is at this point today.

Obviously, I have zero knowledge about who Chevy likes, but I have a super hard time believing that he's really looking to pass on Laine.

I have Puljujarvi rated higher in my mind over Laine. He's been injured since Laine caught fire, and was rated higher prior and I agree with Coco-puffs' assessment.

I also agree this could just be a smoke and mirrors show to see which teams might offer something of substance.

If they like both guys equally they could entertain the notion of seeing if Columbus would bite to move up for Laine.

Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reporting that CBJ has price checked for the TML and WJ picks.

Last year, Edm didn't even listen.

I'm sure Lou is listening out of courtesy more than anything else.

Literally the only thing that the Blue Jackets could add to the 3rd overall to make me interested would be Seth Jones. And truthfully I'd still probably say no even though it'd be a great deal because 1) god damn do I want a true 1C and 2) I'd just try and offer sheet Jones to get him that way.

Yep, I'm sure Lou would take a call, he won't just hang up on the guy.  Or as they're all in Buffalo probably talking face to face, Lou's been around the game long enough to know you don't close any doors outright.  If the rumor about Winnipeg considering not Laine, then I could see CBJ moving up to 2 at best.
