So the debate begins: Matthews vs. Laine

I can't confirm if that screenshot for McDavid is legit or not (original source isn't easily googleable for me), but I'm inclined to believe that it's real because those numbers are very Button.

He changed the metric to Goal Scoring for this year, which would probably change MdDavid's 'score' because scoring is a combination of skills, whereas the shot is an isolated measure.

I found them here: http://www.tsn.ca/mcdavid-tops-mckenzie-s-final-draft-ranking-1.300634

Pavel Zacha has a better "shot" than McDavid. Jeremy Bracco's shot is on par with Connor's.

Also I like looking at draft rankings from last year because it reminds me that the Bruins could have ended up with Mathew Barzal, Kyle Connor, and Travis Konecny at 13-14-15 in a draft that could have literally changed the future of that franchise, and instead picked 3 guys who weren't even consensus 1st round draft picks.

Thanks Carlton. I did find that page but didn't read or click through.

This year's ranking thing is on video still.
Laine scored 5son everything but 4/5 on skating.
Puljuj?rvi scored 5s on hockey sense and compete, 4s on skating, hands, and goal scoring.

My first favourite moment was drafting Marner (who's ranking thing was 5s except for 4 on skating and 3 on shot). My second favourite moment was this Boston debacle.

I hope they take Sean Day at 14 this year. Or at least Tage Thompson.

Or actually they could use a Chara replacement soon, enter: Logan Stanley.

Jesus Christ Button gave McDavid a 3/5 on his shot?!

That's ok it just means Matthews has a 40% better shot than McDavid.  I'm already calling Calder, Art Ross and Hart for Matthews.

His size should help him stand up better to a Philly sandwich, too.

I'm watching Boston, Calgary, and Vancouver to see who can be the stupidest. Vancouver and Calgary picking so high will either not fail, or fail spectacularly.

This explains a good deal about Matthews' otherworldly handling and anticipation.

Thanks for posting herman.

No problem, Tigger!

BTW, if you were wondering why Ozzie Ice was closed or why it sounded familiar: http://nocache.azcentral.com/12news/news/articles/0811icerink11-CP.html

I need a smoke after that, Mirtle is so great.

I think one of the really exciting things about Matthews is that he's one of the first really elite cases of Hockey getting the sort of US born athlete that they wouldn't have gotten 10 or 15 years earlier. It's always sort of that great what if of what the US hockey or soccer programs would look like if athletes like Mike Trout or Julio Jones or Russell Westbrook were funneled there instead of the more popular American sports and Matthews seems to maybe be the first look at that.

This feels so good.  Can hardly wait for the draft.

GO LEAFS GO!

My favourite part was the observation about his early small-ice experience leading to his hard-earned skill in confined space. He has developed the physical tools to execute the whims of his mental gifts.

Great read.  Thanks for posting and thanks for the story, Mirtle!
