Stanley Cup Final: Tampa Bay Lightning (2) vs. Dallas Stars (3)

It?s weird you?d think viewership would be up with people being stuck at home and all those fans not in the stadiums.

Ratings in most other sports were also bad.

Will be interesting to see the numbers when there's a vaccine or things go back to normal. This time has given a lot of people time to reflect on their own lives and sports may not play a part in many going forward.

While that's true, I was more interested in the Canada numbers. The ratings on Sportsnet for the finals were bad when compared to earlier NHL games in the playoffs.

Which is at least a little significant when you frame it in the context not just of the now open secret that Sportsnet is getting killed by their NHL deal but also the idea that Canadians are so hockey-crazed that a series between two non-traditional markets will register in a big way.

Would love to see the numbers if the Leafs made it to the finals. i think it would have been better if McD or Crosby made it.

I know it's only anecdotal, but if my GTA neighbourhood is any representation, the kids under 25 could care less about watching the NHL, and I live it a pretty big hotspot historically for youth hockey. It's all about basketball.

Having gone through similar miscarriage situations, it sucks so very much, but I'm also glad they are open to talking about it. It is unfortunately very common (like 1 in 4 don't come to term), and unfortunately also very common that couples stew in silent misery and pain.

To add further insult from Tampa asking Stamkos to move on from the team, in the same interview, he revealed he completed the partial lower abdominal tear that held him out of most of the playoffs. It was the final play dodging a check after receiving the pass when he felt it completely go, and carried on to complete the play (scoring the goal).

Sigh. What a tragic story.

From a business perspective, it makes quite a bit of sense for Tampa to want trade him.

Stamkos has a full no-trade clause though, right?  He should say no. He took a below-market deal to stay with Tampa, perhaps due to tax reasons or whatever. They reaped the benefit. Say no.

Of the many reasons for a luxury tax instead of a hard cap, de-emphasizing business reasons guiding how a player is dealt with in a situation like this seems pretty good.
