Tank Nation UNITE!!!

Tank Nation isn't dead yet guys. Nashville lost out on their division, and they'll have the 2nd highest amount of points among teams that didn't win their division. That means assuming they're knocked out in the first 2 rounds their pick will be in the 21-25 range, depending on where the division-winners get knocked out.

So that means we're rooting for the Preds, Ducks, Blues, Rangers, and either Habs or Lightning to get knocked before the Conference Finals.

I was thinking more of game seven of the first round.

Don't the 15th to 30th place picks get set in stone after this Saturday night?

I'd settle with the Leafs picking 1st and 21st. Oh, and add another pick in there somewhere between for Phanuef. Let's say, 11.

No, playoff teams have their positioning based on playoff results. Stanley Cup winners gets 30th, runner-up gets 29th. The teams that lost in the Conference Finals get 28th and 27th. Then the other playoff teams go, with any divisional winners remaining getting the highest spots.

Quite the opposite. The 1st to 14th picks will be set in stone. The others will be decided after each playoff round.

I did not know that. If the playoffs started just as they are now then Nashville would be C2 and host Chicago at C3. So if Chicago beats them then they drop to what......?

It depends entirely on why else wins/loses.

Draft rankings go: Cup winner, Cup loser, ECF/WCF losers, Division winners ranked by regular season standings, non division winners by order of standing.

So Nashville in theory could draft as low as 22nd and as high as 30th right now.

Or, in other words, there's virtually no difference between the historical odds of drafting a good player regardless of where Nashville's pick falls.

They could go as low as 21st since either Tampa or Montreal will finish 2nd in their division and still have more points than Nashville. So best-case scenario would be Nashville, A2 (Tampa or Montreal) and the 4 divisional winners all being eliminated in the first 2 rounds. That would put 9 teams behind Nashville in the draft order.

No, but it's always preferable to have more options available to you.

Hey, if they can sucker a team into the sort of trade the Leafs made to move up for Biggs, all the better.
