The 2013-2014 Toronto Raptors thread: A 'Drake' New World

Looking at that list it's really hard not to see the East as being considerably more open than it was said to be all year. I mean, if the standings don't change from here to the end of the season then how confident should anyone be that Indiana would beat either Chicago or Brooklyn in the second round?

Yes, and don't forget Miami hasn't beat the Nets all season.  Both Chicago and Brooklyn could upset either Indiana or Miami.  The Raptors will be in tough no matter the first round opponent, but they'd still be the favourite against Charlotte or Washington.  Against Chicago or the Nets, they'd be the underdog.

The Raps best chances in the post season are Charlotte/Washington in the 1st round, and Indiana (who they've played really well all year) in the 2nd round.

Bad loss tonight at home against the Knicks, and Chicago has come back from down 18 at the half and is outscoring the hapless Pistons 19-3 so far in the 4th and is starting to run away with this one - looks like the Raps could slide to fourth and a first round matchup with Brooklyn, who also lost tonight. Raps clinch the division, but I don't like their chances against Brooklyn compared to say Washington...

Well, the movement of Sergio Santos' slider notwithstanding the Raps win over Detroit last night and the Bulls' loss to the Knicks have the Raps back in the #3 seed with only two games to play.

Also, the game featured Demar Derozan posterizing Kyle Singler in impressive fashion.

Good win.  Indiana looks to be the #1 seed though so a 2nd round matchup would be against the Heat.  Too bad.  Both teams are vulnerable right now but LeBron is still LeBron and if motivated he can win 1 on 5.

I noticed this too. Heat lost tonight, so Pacers are confirmed as #1 seed. This means that the Raps will either get Brooklyn-Indiana or Washington-Miami. They have played Indiana much tougher this year, but I'd be worried about that Brooklyn matchup in the first round.

Not that they had an illustrious history, but pretty impressive to set a franchise record for wins this season.  Didn't see that coming.

42-21 since the Rudy Gay trade. Not too shabby and definitely unexpected.

In comical news, after Shabazz Napier embarrassed the NCAA by saying that he goes to bed hungry some days because he can't afford it, the NCAA has passed a decree that student athletes can get unlimited meal plans as part of their recruitment package.

This after ESPN just signed a 7 billion dollar contract for the TV rights the the SEMI-FINAL and FINAL BCS Bowl playoff games for the next 12 years.  SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS for 24 football games and this is the way the NCAA tries to wipe the egg off their faces.  What a fricking joke.

I hope Carlton never leaves the CIS to go the NCAA.

In other news, the Raptors go for their 49th win on the year tonight against the Knicks.  Last night the Nets rolled over for the Knicks so I'm not sure just how tired the Knicks will be.

The final night of the NBA season can have a lot of effect on the playoff standings

1 (SET) - Indiana
2 (SET) - Miami
3 - Toronto (WIN OR Chicago LOSS); Chicago (WIN AND Toronto LOSS))win or Chicago loss
4 - Chicago (LOSS or Toronto WIN); Toronton (LOSS AND Chicago WIN)
5 - Brooklyn (Win OR Chicago loss); Washington (WIN and Brooklyn LOSS)
6 - Washington (LOSS OR Brooklyn WIN); Brooklyn (LOSS and Washington WIN); Charlotte (WIN and Washington LOSS)
7 - Charlotte (LOSS OR Washington WIN); Washington (LOSS and Charlotte WIN)
8 - (SET) - Atlanta

Raptors @ Knicks
Wizards @ Celtics
Nets @ Cavaliers
Chicago @ Charlotte

I can't help but feel as though that's coming to an end. I think the bigger schools realize what a complete and total scam it is to pretend that there's not a market for college age athletes and are sick of getting dinged by the NCAA on the instances where they recognize and reward that. It wouldn't surprise me in the next few years for teams in the bigger conferences to abandon the NCAA together.

Things look headed to a Toronto vs. Brooklyn 1st round.  The Nets are throwing their game against the Cavaliers by sitting half their starters and bench with "injuries".

Yeah, it's pretty blatant how badly I think both Chicago and Brooklyn wanted to avoid a repeat of their matchup last year. Ah well, bring 'em on.

Chicago has lost to Charlotte, so the Raps get 3rd. Brooklyn getting blown out, Washington whooping Boston, so it looks like Washington will slide up to 5th. So we have:
Atlanta vs. Indiana
Charlotte vs. Miami
(Brooklyn) vs. Toronto
(Washington) vs. Chicago

Seeing as how Washington is up 18 in the 4th and Cleveland is up 22 in the 4th, looks like this is how it is going to go down. Too bad, too, because from a matchup perspective, this is one of the toughest the Raps could have had (Brooklyn, then Miami).

Obviously you want Washington if you get to choose but I'd prefer Brooklyn to Chicago.

Agreed. I'd have preferred Washington then Indiana. Pretty crappy how things turn out sometimes. Who knows how things will turn out, though. :)

Yeah, I guess I just meant I don't see it as crappy. Of the three finishes that were possible, I think they got the second most advantageous one and I think the Raps have a pretty good shot at beating the Nets.

So its Jay Z vs. Drake in the first round.

It's going to be tough...but I think the Raps young swagger upsets the Nets grit and experience.
