THE 2016 NHL DRAFT-DAY THREAD

I wonder if they are looking for guys that can come in and play in the next 1-2 years this time as opposed to skilled projects that need more time to develop the physical component required to play in the NHL. If I had to guess, I think that they think they can be a really interesting team really quickly and are looking for guys who can come in and compliment what they have.

That being said, they are smart enough that if they believed there was a significantly better player available when they picked, they'd have went that way.

Or they just realize the value in not always going high upside. Both of their third rounders are college bound Americans so it's pretty safe to say they're not leaning in any one direction.

The second overage player drafted.  Not sure I understand this strategy.

Depth players ready to contribute right away at the pro level.

The Marlies is about to be picked clean and they wanted it to remain competitive is my guess.

Middleton's big, 6'5 and 235. Played for Saginaw. Is apparently afraid of ghosts, which aren't real.

Something like that would be my guess too. Not necessarily to make the Marlies competitive, but to put the current Marlies on notice and get immediate competition into the roster.

Loads the pot sweetener quicker too as this draft doesn't look too special outside the top 20.

Last year everyone praised the Leafs drafting strategy, this year people are scratching their heads. I don't know anything about any of these guys so it's wait and see as a fan.

Does anyone know if Yegor Korshkov has an out clause in his KHL contract?

I don't like that he has 2 more years on his KHL contract. I really hope our management spoke to him to find out if he was even interested in coming over.

Could be a huge waste of a top 2nd round pick otherwise.

Seems like a stretch to me, however, I'm not a scout.

Sean Day is a steal at 81

Boom or bust poster child right there.

Does he ever remind me of my youngest son Caleb. Although Caleb is a 6'2" 222 lbs RH shot forward.

Never sure if he was going to dominate a game or just cruise through it.  Lead his high school AAA team in scoring both years he played for them and got 7 pts in the 3 tryout games last summer after 2 years off the ice for the Brampton Beasts as a 19 year old against mostly pro or university players but hasn't pursued it. Philadelphia Flyers invited him to their ECHL tryout they had in Burlington last summer even.

This past year he worked at a convenience store and watched NetFlix.

Yeah, you should probably go back and read last year's draft thread. Wasn't quite "everyone".

Two Swedish defensemen take in a row threaten to be at the top of the All-Name Team. Alfons Malmstrom and Hardy Haman Aktell.
