The Habs Thread - Reloaded

Excerpts from 02.05.2011 via NHL.com:

Sure enough, it happened at 18:34 of the second when Picard's shot from the point missed the net to the right of Biron and bounced off the lively Bell Centre end boards right to Gomez on the other side.

"It's a good thing (Picard) can't hit the net," Gomez said. "I'm sure he'll say he meant to do that. I just closed my eyes and got a little lucky."

Can the Habs do the Leafs a favor again and beat the Pens?  It's a long shot, but they're playing at home and should be up for the game.

Habs trade Gill + Conditional 5th to Nashville for prospects Blake Geoffrion, Robert Slaney and 2nd Round pick.

The Montreal Canadiens made it official Friday they will be sellers leading up to the NHL trade deadline, dealing veteran defenceman Hal Gill to the Nashville Predators for a draft pick and a piece of their history.

Montreal sent Gill and a conditional 2013 fifth-round draft pick to Nashville for a 2012 second-round pick, prospect Robert Slaney and Blake Geoffrion, the 24-year-old grandson of Hall of Famer Bernard (Boom Boom) Geoffrion.

Very happy with this trade.  I can't remember too many where Montreal is on the right side of a trade and in the direction I want them to be going.

We get a couple of big forwards, 6'1" and 6'2" and some obvious lineage with Geoffrion is a nice touch.

Go Habs 2016-17!

Yeah, you guys won that one.  Not sure where Poile is going with his blueline thinking.  That whole problem could go kablooie on him.

I guess Nashville is going to try to bore their way to the cup with year.  :P

Honestly, though, I never watch their games and have no idea if they're boring and I think they have a decent shot.  Some crazy defence there.

I don't know if I'm willing to give this one to the Habs quite so easily. The best asset they received was the 2nd round pick, which is right around what Gill was worth. Slaney, as we know, is ECHL/AHL fodder and if Geoffrion wasn't related to Boom Boom, we'd be writing him off as another dime a dozen 3rd/4th line grinder type - you know, the type of guy you can usually get for a 5th round pick. I'd say this was a fair deal all around, no winners or losers.
