The Marlies In Context - A Playoff Primer

Keefe's comments on the hit:

Just brutal. Hope Johnson's ok.

I like the way the refs managed the game.
It could have easily spiralled out of control.

I hope Andreas has a speedy recovery and can prepare for next season.

What a way to start his pro Career in N.A. with the worst kind of hit from some lump of an AHL goon.  The guy should be tossed for a year.

Keefe demonstrating incredible composure and restraint.

Rich Clune is articulate, well-spoken, and one weird cat. I hope we keep him around.

Is he talking about Hyman at the start of the video?  It's hard to tell.

PPP put together a list of headshot suspensions
Albany tops the list with 4 suspensions this season, now adding Kelly's second 10-gamer.

In also happy news:

Q: How is Johnson doing? Take us through what happened last night and how he feels today.

Keefe: Yeah, he's feeling a lot better today, and he was in pretty rough shape leaving here from everything I was told and didn't remember anything, and there was a lot of cause for concern, certainly. So he went off to the hospital, and a member of our training staff went with him. Andrew Campbell, our captain went with him as well to provide some support there for him, and he spent a good part of the night there, and late in the night he was released back to the hotel. We took care of him through the night to check on him and make sure he was good, and he came down for breakfast this morning, late this morning, and looked to be in good spirits and doing a lot better so that made me certainly feel a lot better. Watching that hit over and over again last night was sickening and hard to watch. But to see him down at breakfast today made me feel a lot better about everything and it was good to see that so you know, we're not going to expect him back on the ice any time soon.

Seeing Rosehill on that list of suspensions makes me just shake my head. I guess goons aren't quite extinct just yet.

I like the talk about the Marlies focusing on their process rather than the results.
The series is tied, but territorially, the Marlies have mostly been all over the Devils and had numerous chances that either hit a stick, or a post, or Wedgewood; last game, they just happened to keep going in.

Graham Black just missed nailing Leipsic with an elbow to the head too.

If leagues really want to make serious progress in eliminating shots to the head like that attempt, they need to start penalizing them regardless of whether or not contact is made. An attempt to injure is still an attempt to injure if the hit doesn't connect.

So say we all.

Leblond's goonery: https://streamable.com/xxp3?t=11.6

Aims for Holl's head at the end boards and then as the penalty is waiting to be whistled down, he gives Nylander a solid slash to the ankle.
