One question? why it it that even after a 29-29 season grabo is not classed as a #1 center. i think we have had a top center all along we just needed to wait for him to get to this point. i'm betting he improves on his numbers this season. and as for Simmons he is a typical to media writer, always down on there team, maybe some day they will do it right and get behind there team. the leafs will be better then eight this year.

That's easy... there are 30 or more centers that are better than Grabovski.

I don't think that's true especially with price performance.

You don't? I went to nhl.com, did a check of the top centers and got to 30 pretty quickly...

I didn't consider price performance as a factor though.

So I went to NHL.com just to see and hit 'centre' under 'summary' and he was 23rd in scoring so I kept looking, 13th in +/-, 25th in Pim's, 7th in PP goals, tied with 16th to 28th place for shorties, 10th in shots...

Being 127th on faceoffs, 116th in hits.. those could be better, well if we're talking about those numbers...

So i guess he needs to make the top 10 in those numbers to be a first line center?  ;D ;D

Grabo was healthy last year. To ignore that and not base it on a per game rate is obviously going to skew things in his favour. He's not a better #1 than guys like Spezza because he scored one more point in 20 more games.

Which of the following do you consider Grabovski better than, and explain why.

Crosby/Datsyuk/Stamkos/Malkin/Zetterberg/Toews/Getzlaf/Staal/Sedin/Kesler/Thornton/
M. Richards/Carter/Tavares/Duchene/B. Richards/Backstrom/Kopitar/Giroux/
Sharp/Briere/Pavelski/Stastny/M. Koivu/Spezza/Lecavalier/Krejci/Bergeron/Backes/Roy

I think you could make a pretty serious argument that each of those guys are better than Grabovski, and most of them substantially better. The only ones who are even close are the last 4, and maybe Lecavalier.

Backes is a right wing, not a centre (he takes a lot of faceoffs, but, during the play, his coverage and positioning is on the wing, not down the middle) and Carter, while listed as a centre, played predominantly on the wing last season.

You didn't even bother blaming the question this time, waahoo! I never said he was better than Spezza.

Ooo, the on-demand post, beauty. I think most of them are better though a few of them aren't really centres from recent years, I'm including Zetts here so by default Grabbo is already #27... hurm, then there's Sharp... kidding both of them would be better centres if they played that position... Ignoring Carter and Backes too I think Grabbo is approaching Krecji/Bergeron territory but not better than and that's saying a lot considering the show they put on at the dance last year.

Vinny is interesting, Grabbo doesn't have his high end offensive ability but he is becoming more effective as an overall player.

Staal is a funny one too as he's more of a defense first type of centre and not very good on the pp. I'd say Staal is better at what he does but he's also playing with some pretty good players, that's a toughie.

Giroux is a good player but again playing on a good team. I don't think he's ahead by much.

Wait what are 18 teams doing hogging all those good centres?

...also, not sure how I did it but Grabbo didn't score any shorties last year, my mistake, but you know it was all in reference to the nebulous 'nhl.com'... :)

Yarr, I think ye're thinking of the wrong Staal.
