The "Mr. T" Man of the Match Thread, 2014-15 Edition

MotM:  Reimer! Reimer! Reimer!
Hm:    Komarov  (so glad we signed him back)

Good efforts by Kessel, Winnik, Kadri, Holland, Van Riemsdyk, et al.

MotM: Reimer
HM: Tough call, but I'm going to go against the grain and go with Holland. A goal, plus he basically set up the JVR goal with a good forecheck.

Big nod Komarov, and one for Santorelli who had a great cycle game going. Kessel, Kadri, JVR, Winnik all looked great, and Carrick didn't look out of place for a call-up.

Game #11 ? TOR v CBJ: Leafs 4-1.  MotM: Winnik 5/2.  HM: Kessel 0/7.  Others: Bernier 2/0, Clarkson 1/0.

* Yeah, I know.  I refuse to accept it, however.

I'm still confused on why goalies get less points. I am a goalie though  ;D

My understanding is that it has to do with the nature of the position: Goalies play all 60 minutes (typically) and are involved in every shot on goal, and thus they are more noticeable and have a much bigger opportunity to shape the course of the game than any other skater.  As a result they tend to get up-voted more often than other players, and would probably run away with the point total every year.  (It would be especially problematic if we had a typical starting/backup goalie system going, rather than a more egalitarian tandem.)

The reverse is sort of true of defenseman (there are typically fewer of them on the ice than forwards, and if they do their job right they tend to get ignored) but the problem isn't as pronounced as the goalie one.

Even though this sort of thing is really difficult to quantify, I think the point system worked out really well last year.

I couldn't have explained it better than that.  Thanks.

Especially with a team that routinely gives up 30+ shots most nights.  If the Leafs were a shutdown defensive team I don't think we would need the adjusted point system.
