I'm sure it makes sense somehow but compare Youkilis to Eric Chavez and they're of a similar age, have similar injury problems, play the same position and Chavez had a significantly better year than Youk but Youk gets 12 milion and Chavez gets 3.

I imagine track record played into it to a significant degree. 2012 was Chavez's first really good season since 2005, whereas it looks like an off year from Youkilis.

Yeah, don't get me wrong. Choice of the two and I take Youk but 4 times as much money? Eh, not mine I suppose.

I hear ya, but, at the same time, I'm definitely the type who'd look at a player's performance over the past 3 or 4 seasons, and, in that case, I'd be giving Youk 4 times what I'd be giving Chavez for sure.

Agreed. 2008-2010 Youk was a very serious offensive threat. He was ok in 2011 and obviously kind of sucked in 2012.

Chavez, on the other hand, hasn't been much of a hitter since 2004 - last notwithstanding of course.

Josh Hamilton to the Angels. 5 years/125.

Yikes.

I've heard they are pursuing RA Dickey now too and they have Bourjos as a possible fit for the Mets.

I don't know much about Bourjos and if he has enough value to return Dickey.

He had a heck of a '11 but I can't imagine he'd be enough to land Dickey by himself. That said he's a good, young, controllable outfielder which is just what the Mets need.

Lots of money and no pitching, but if he and Pujols can stay healthy and Pujols can regain a bit more of his form then they have a crushing offense. Trout, Hamilton, Pujols, Trumbo. That's a ton of power in the 3-5 spots coupled with the best leadoff hitter in the game.

Of course, knowing LAA's luck, Hamilton will get injured/relapse, Pujols will be revealed to be 38 years old and swiftly decline and Trout will have to figure out how to score 10 runs a game by himself.

Yeah. The meat of their order has potential to be downright scary, but, their starting staff . . . Weaver, Wilson and a mixed bag of meh.

Pretty spendy 4th outfielder there in Vernon.

Jon Heyman described Vernon as the 5th outfielder.

It wouldn't shock me if the Angels decide to just eat the rest of his contract and DFA him, depending on how the rest of their offseason plays out.

Ouch... and yeah, he very well could be their 5th.

Here's a hell of a stat:

The Angels were 17-28 when Vernon Wells started last season and 45-32 when he didn't. (up until August 20, the date I saw the stat on twitter).

Hall of Famer and one of the greatest hitting legends in MLB, Stan "the man" Musial, a St.Louis Cardinal throughout his career,  passed away at the age of 92.

Here's more:

Who can forget Earl Weaver, the "feisty" fella who coached the Orioles for nearly a decade and a half. He certainly had his moments, yet served as the winningest bench boss in Orioles history.  Quite a career...

Heyman, Rosenthal are both reporting that Justin Upton will most likely be traded to the Braves.

I don't know anything about baseball prospects, but the only name I've heard going back to Arizona so far is Randall Delgado.

Watch out for the Braves. Their new outfield consists of Justin Upton, BJ Upton, and Jason Heyward.

Absolutely love it.  Potential for an elite outfield.

We've already dubbed them:  UP, UP, and a HEY!

I guess the Rays really liked our deplorable middle infield last year for some reason. They signed Kelly Johnson to a 1-year deal today, after having traded for Yunel Escobar earlier in the winter.

So Mark Teixeira admits he is overpayed and his best years are likely behind him.  A-Rod is a shadow of his former self (if he even plays this year).  Jeter is 38 years old and coming off breaking his ankle.  Father time is bound to catch up to him sometime real soon.  They may have Curtis Granderson for 1 more season and then he could/will likely very well bolt.  Cano, is 30, and one year away from cashing in a $200M contract from someone (Yankees or otherwise)....  Mariano Rivera is as old as the silent era.  Youkilis may not be a very good everyday player anymore.  They lost Nick Swisher in free agency.  Hafner hasn't been good for 6 years now.

I know that this isn't news, but the Yankees could be in for some serious trouble.
