So Mark Teixeira admits he is overpayed and his best years are likely behind him.  A-Rod is a shadow of his former self (if he even plays this year).  Jeter is 38 years old and coming off breaking his ankle.  Father time is bound to catch up to him sometime real soon.  They may have Curtis Granderson for 1 more season and then he could/will likely very well bolt.  Cano, is 30, and one year away from cashing in a $200M contract from someone (Yankees or otherwise)....  Mariano Rivera is as old as the silent era.  Youkilis may not be a very good everyday player anymore.  They lost Nick Swisher in free agency.  Hafner hasn't been good for 6 years now.

I know that this isn't news, but the Yankees could be in for some serious trouble.

The Yankees have virtually the same roster as last season except for Swisher and Martin leaving. Youkilis will be a better 3B to fill in for A-Rod than Chavez, plus they have Rivera and the under-appreciated Gardner back. Throw in a really good (if healthy) rotation and the Yankees aren't quite as in the dumps as many think. This team is probably worse than last year's team but remember, last year's team had the best record in the American League. NY will still be in the hunt this season.

I agree. The Yankees have a very good pitching staff, top to bottom, and I like some of their additions. Hafner, who's struggled to stay healthy, has hit well and gotten on base when he was with an OPS+ of 120 or better in each of the last 4 years.

I think what Carpenter will be most remembered for are his playoff performances.

2005: 2-0, 2.14 ERA
2006: 3-1, 2.78 ERA
2011: 4-0, 3.25 ERA
2012: 1-2, 2.63 ERA

Meh.  He left a bad taste in my mouth for the way he left the team.  They didn't give the guy guaranteed money and he whined like he was entitled to it.  In the long-run that was a mistake from the organization but I always hated that the Jays were made out to be this evil organization that jettisoned a guy when he was down.

Heck of a career though.
