The A's lost to KC in 12 innings in the AL Wildcard matchup.  All those trades and they still can't win.  Kansas City making the playoffs means the Jays are the only team in the Majors who haven't made the playoffs in the last 20 years.

Giving them the longest active playoff drought in North American major league sports.

It's amazing how Toronto teams are adept at setting marks for futility.

I am continually amazed just how bad the Tigers' bullpen actually is. They have given up, what, 11 runs in the firt two games against Baltimore now? And all in the 8th inning? Not sure how the GM can continue to be employed by seemingly ignoring their biggest problem.

Ah,  imperfection at it's finest.  :)  Don't expect the Orioles to lose against the
Tigers.  Detroit's flaw will become Baltimore's gain.  So far, that's what it's looking like.

Joe Maddon opts out with the Rays. I imagine he's LA bound.

Word is the Cubs are the favourites to land him, actually.

Pretty interesting how the World Series is tied 3-3, but only one game has really been close, a 3-2 KC win in Game 3. The rest have been decided by five runs or more.

All the marbles are on the line tonight in KC.

Well, it looks like the Red Sox have added about 40 million in payroll for next year with signing Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez.

And rumours of them floating a 140 million dollar contract to bring Lester back, meanwhile the Blue Jays are looking at the waiver wires.

I wouldn't go that far for the Jays. They made a major move in signing Martin. They still have some work to do, but, they're clearly doing more than scouring waivers for improvements.

Don't get me wrong.  I liked the signing.  I am not particularly a fan of Navarro's awful defense behind the plate but this is two years in a row of a team that is clearly not good enough to win and they really aren't giving out a good indication that there is much money left to play with.  They are still using a guy who has no business being anything more than a late game sub as their starting 2B, they have a trainwreck in the outfield, they have a few holes in the bullpen and the rotation it still going to be a questionmark again this year.

Maybe but it's interesting to note that both of the deals that the Sox signed today look to be five years or less(reports are the Sandoval deal is 5/90). A 140 million dollar offer to Lester could, although this is less likely, be for five years too.

It's also still pretty early in the offseason and only 4 major free agents have signed contracts - one of them with the Jays. Haven't been a lot of significant pieces traded either. Still a lot of time for a lot to happen.

Really? The genuine feeling on the Tigers forum I'm part of is that the Yankees really overpaid on this one.

Interestingly enough, both things might be true. Reports are saying Miller turned down 4 years and 40 from the Astros but it's still a big contract to give a pitcher with a very limited track record of success.

The dismantling of the A's continues with Brandon Moss going to the Indians and Jeff Smardj...Szmarja aw forget it, the former Notre Dame WR getting dealt to the White Sox.

Also the Cubs sign Lester for 6 years/155 which was apparently 20 million more than Boston was offering.

Honestly, this is the craziest off-season I've ever seen. It's really getting hard to keep track of the former all-stars getting dealt. Dee Gordon to Miami for top pitching prospect Andrew Heaney who's a Dodger for all of a couple hours before they flip him across town for Howie Kendrick. Mat Latos to the Marlins. Jimmy Rollins to the Dodgers. The Red Sox added Rick Porcello(for Cespedes), Justin Masterton and Wade Miley. Matt Kemp to the Padres for Yasmani Grandal.

Throw in some not insignificant singings(McCarthy to the Dodgers, most of the remaining bullpen arms to Houston, Ervin Santana to Minnesota) and I really can't remember anything like this. It seems like a perfect storm of every team in the league having money and every team in the league being smart.
