The puffers cleared up the daughters cough for about 3 days.....Now she's back into the hacking cough. It just won't go away.

Whooping cough really is a terrible illness. Its really stubborn and can take a couple months to get over. Its just awful. How long has she had it now?

Man, that sucks... Sounds like you need to shut everything down, bite the bullet and go. Health first, you know? Screw the holidays if you need to.

I just don't think I'm bad enough to be admitted, you know? Its bad, I can barely sleep but I'm more or less stable in how bad it is for the last 2 weeks. I really don't know what to do. Doc gave me the all the front line treatments and nothing. This is by far the most frustrating experience I've had.

Have you gone back to the same doctor yet?  If not, go. Or go visit another doc at a walk in or something.  Having issues that long can't be just a nagging thing. Sounds a lot more serious.

Ive been back a few times. The thing is he thinks its whooping cough and it can take up to 6 weeks for the hacking cough to go away :( Not much you can do, which really is the hardest part. I wouldn't mind a second opinion though.

Has he sent you for a chest xray or anything? I'm no expert but usually anything where you are having that much trouble breathing they would do that to ensure it isn't something like pneumonia.

Yeah chest x-ray was negative, was sent a week and a half ago.

About 6 weeks, minus the 3 or 4 days a couple weeks ago we thought she had kicked it.

Her energy is certainly back and the cough only seems to rear it's ugly head in the morning when she wakes up congested or in the evening when her body is worn out.

Sort of like myself but I still get it throughout the day due to the wheezing. Its a nasty bugger that just doesn't like letting up. Hopefully she gets better soon.

One thing I learned is the fact that this illness needs a booster shot every 5-10 years. I was vaccinated as a kid but didn't think to follow up because I thought I was immune. Needless to say after this I'm going to go for any outstanding vaccinations/immunizations. These old world sickneses are nasty.

It's odd, because she's the only one that didn't get the flu when it ripped through our household. Maybe all the drugs from the cough prevented the puking...

Whooping cough is really, really nasty. I had it about 15 years ago. The 1st 2 weeks were like a bad flu. Completely drained of energy. And that was just the start.

Then came the month or so of coughing fits, windpipe contracting and struggling to breathe. It did finally let up after about 6 weeks or so. At the time, it felt like it was never going to go away.

Yeah its terrible! That's pretty much where I'm at now but I think it got complicated with bronchitis. Its a really demoralizing illness. Ugh.

On the plus side doc sent me to get an x-ray again and still looks clean, no pneumonia. Looking into sending me to respirologist and back on prednisone.

Well, I'm on the upswing of a bout with Norwalk virus. I think I just had the worst day of my life. Thankfully, it only lasts 24 - 48 hours. I was lying on the bathroom floor shaking and begging for sweet death.

I might even try to eat something today, like a freezer or popsicle.

How did you catch it?

Not sure, but there's been a confirmed outbreak from a very popular catering company in town. One that my boss used at his house party a few days ago. I'm guessing that's where.

I'm actually self-diagnosing here, so it could be something else, but the symptoms, the rapid onset, the severity, all point to that virus.

Oooh, totally sympathize with you there.  Earlier this year, half my family ate at a japanese place called Ginza sushi for a quick lunch.  My parents, me and my eldest daughter.  By 10pm me and my daughter were throwing up non-stop.  I thought when I swore i would never binge drink again in my 20's,  i'd never go through this kind of stuff again.  Felt like i was hit by a bus.  Just when I thought it all came out, my stomache kept trying to squeeze every little bit out. It was so exhausting and caused muscle cramps.  Call my parents the next day, and they experienced the same thing.

Feeling MUCH better today. In fact, the worst part is the very painful neck, upper back, and rib muscles from the constant vomiting.

Of course, I'm now getting my son's eye infection. Worst is I know what's coming. His cousins (all 3) had it too and it literally glued their eyes shut. Every morning, someone else in the house had to get a warm wet cloth to release their eyelids.

What a terrible start to the season. oh well. Could be worse, i guess?

You could have Whooping cough ;) I kid. Its good to hear that the virus has passed though! Maybe you can nip the eye infection in the bud somehow?

Oh, it "passed through" alright.  :-X Nothing like stuff coming out of your top and bottom simultaneously! (sorry)

No luck with the eye. Woke up this morning, can't open my right eye it's so swollen and it's got stuff dripping out of it. This has not been a good start to the holidays.

Hey, at least I don't whooping couch or bronchitis. I'm feeling pretty good though, other than the half-blindness.

Well doc said I should be admitted to emerged as nothing has worked so far. Hopefully they'll actually admit me. Merry Christmas indeed.
