The Official Complaint Thread!

Does anybody else get ticked off by people who shovel and push their driveway snow into the street?  You know, snowplows don't magically make road snow disappear;  they push it along the side of the road, including the next driveway or two down the street.  So pushing snow into the road is basically saying, "here, snowplow, go deposit a lot of this snow at the end of my neighbour's driveway".

I saw that but this was happening on an older version of Java. Interestingly enough when I was looking for a solution, the first thing suggested was to ensure my plugins were all up to date. I updated my Java plugin after that.
I got updated to Java 7 update 11 last night. Firefox is still crashing every time I go to close a tab or the program itself.

I believe it applied to older versions and current versions (4 through 7).  I'm not sure about Windows 7, but on Mac OS X, Apple moved to block the plug in on Macs where it was already installed until Oracle provided a "fix"

Separately, I was reading some threads about how Firefox users realized that Java had been disabled after updating to version 18 and it still was disabled even though they were entirely up to date with the latest version of Java.

That "fix" was apparently issued today, but some people remain skeptical.

Do you guys truly need Java?  It's such a high security risk, and all indications are that it will continue to remain as such, regardless of intermittent patching of the exploitable holes.  Very few websites require Java installed.  I refuse to install or enable it any longer on any computer I use.

... particularly when the neighbor uses his snow blower to do it

My neighbor complained to me this summer about getting a little water on the street from my sprinkler (and I'm talking a drip through a crack in our curb that formed an 18" wet spot - it wasn't even a puddle!!). These are the same neighbors who burn leaves and don't use a recycle bin for anything.  :( >:(

maybe you'd like me as a neighbour, Shrimp of the Heroic kind? I have a snowblower....and whenever there's enough snow to warrant using the effing thing, I actually do the driveways two doors either way from my house as well as my next door neighbours and my own, and the sidewalks in front of the five houses, including the catwalk that goes into the park next door to us. I figure as long as I'm polluting the air anyway, I might as well do a complete job :-)

I don't know, but I uninstalled it and the issue persisted. Turns out it was my Norton 360 that was the issue. After close to an hour with Norton Tech Chat it's now resolved. :)

I approve!

Have we figured out the fascination of people wanting to keep and wear the sticker on their hat after buying it?
I never understood that trend. I remember buying a Jays hat over a year ago and upon showing it to a friend, he commented that I shouldn't have taken the sticker off. Um, I don't leave the size sticker on my jeans after I buy them. Why would I leave the size sticker on my hat as well?

I was wearing an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time.

Just try to get tickets to an event like Pearl Jam.
One show London/Ont.
Log on as soon as the ticket window opens....Sold out in 14 Minutes.
Go on Stub Hub, and magically there are over 115 tickets available.

Just how does that happen? Between Ticketmaster, and this scam of a site there is no way the average fan can ever get to see a decent show.

Someway, somehow this scam has to end.
It's intolerable. >:(

So the other day my family went to the local Wal-Mart.  Since we have a 3-year old and 9-month old, I parked in the spot which says, 'Mom and Tot' (it was -5 out and we had a stroller).  Just as my wife and I get out of our car to unload the kids, the lady driving behind us looks over, points to my wife emphatically, and mouths "MOM and tot".  Initially I thought she was accusing us of parking in the spot as she didn't see our kids, only to realize that because I was there, we shouldn't have parked in the spot.

Needless to say we were peeved.  She parks in the next row over and comes out and looks at us, at which time I ask loudly, "What's the issue."  Her response was, "I'm not trying to start anything, but it says 'mom'.  That is all."  At this point our furor escalates.

As we get into the store, trying to digest the initial shock of it all, we are hanging around the produce section longer than expected.  I told my wife I was going to wait for her to ask her what her problem was, only for my wife to say she's not going to come in this way.

Well, low and behold she strolls in with her two sons 5 minutes later.  I approach her and ask again what the issue was.  Her immediate response was that I was "acting tall" (has nothing to do with the fact she barely clears 5 feet and I am over 6 feet  ::)) and that I was trying to scare her.  Anyways, she kept emphasizing that it says 'MOM' and that her husband would never park there if she was with her (good for them).  My wife told her it's a courtesy spot with the wording open to interpretation and she's being gender biased.  We proceeded to give her more a piece of our mind, even though she tried brushing it off by saying, "It says 'MOM', and I'll leave it at that."

are you serious?  That is totally gender biased.  It's a parking spot for anyone bringing small children.  I have a 3 year old, I've stopped by those spots and waited for people to get out that just parked there waiting to see their kids.  A few times, no kids, someone felt bad enough to get back in the car and park somewhere else.

EDIT - You were with the mom anyways!!!!!!!

Wow. I really wonder about people sometimes. Glad you gave her a piece of your mind, but not too surprised that she didn't really listen to what you had to say. I hope I don't get to be like this. Please say something if I do. :)

Did you smack your friend?

Seems like a strange point of view from that woman. In our city, the signs all say "For parents with small children or pregnant mothers." My wife never let me take advantage of it though, even when she was 8 months pregnant.

That said, I really don't think it warranted confronting the woman in a store.

Why do they have those spots in the first place, with the wording open to interpretation, and no legal precedence.

Just seems like it creates problems like the one above.

I've finally turned around enough to go back to work tomorrow (been off since Nov 22 with whooping cough) and it seems I've come down with a slight cold and sore throat.

Blah!
