The Official Gaming Thread

So Grand Theft Auto V sold 17 million units in its first 3 days making 1 billion dollars and we haven't discussed it?

I cant be the only poster who has been enjoying this game. Has it been discussed somewhere else?

It's pretty insane, isn't it? It made more in 3 days than some countries do over a year.

Great game but I can't justify the $60+ spend :(

I think mine was $55. For the hours and hours of fun I don't mind spending it. My only complaint is the music is pretty terrible. I leave the radio turned off.

So because I'm not generally up on these things has a consensus emerged as to which of the new game consoles will be the one to buy? I'm doing a little bit of preliminary research and it seems as though the general perception is that the PS4 will be better for playing games but that the Xbox One will have the edge as more of an integrated Multimedia thing. Does that sound right?

From what I can tell, the XBox One will be pretty heavily focused on Kinect type games, whereas the PS4 is going to be more about traditional controller based gaming.

Fair enough. Again, from my pretty limited reading it seems as though most games are coming out for both systems but while, as you say, the PS4 seems to have certain technical advantages in that area the Xbox does certain things that make it work more as an all-in-one sort of thing. I was reading that the PS4 won't work as a media server the way the PS3 did or support MP3 playback whereas the Xbox will allow for voice controlled TV use which I like as a very lazy person.

Most major titles will be available on both systems, yeah. It's more that a significant chunk of the XBone exclusives seem to be Kinect heavy titles. The lack of media streaming on the PS4 is a huge drawback, though, it seems like they're leaning towards backtracking on that after the huge public outcry after it was announced. It probably won't be available by launch day, but it seems likely to appear in an early software update.

There is a software update already. First thing you do when you turn on your new PS4 will be to download it. Maybe it's that.

The PS4 is better performance wise, speed specifically I think due to faster RAM and the XBone will have better non-gaming features.

The PS4 is cheaper too, if you don't buy the add ones that come with the Xbox, like the kinect stuff.

The exclusive games will probably always cancel each other out.

No. They're announced what that update includes (I don't remember offhand what it is because I don't own a PS4), but media streaming was not included.

Mostly just playing seasons right now, FUT seems like more work, I also usually play when I'm higher than the empire state building, so the simpler the better.

Online seasons at least? FUT is a ton of fun - do yourself a favor and check it out. I got into it in FIFA 13 and haven't looked back.

lol I just caught that last part - even more reason to check it out.

Yeah, online, it matches you up with people from the same division and roughly the same quality of team.

I play with Celtic mostly, so I run through most people if they are a team with comparable stats.

I'll probably check out FUT at some point, is that the mode where you pay money to buy player packs and the like?

You win div 1 at least yet? FUT is set up basically the same as the online seasons with divisions but you build the team. You can buy FIFA pts yeah but I've never spent a nickel on it.
