The Official Gaming Thread

My 9-year old son and I bought an Xbox One S and I got EA NHL 18. It's slightly different than NHL 2003, which is the last version I played.

Does anyone know how I can get current rosters? The latest official roster from EA is from April 2018.

Yeah, if you haven't played EA games in 15 years you might be surprised at how they've morphed from a company that makes a solid product that provides years of enjoyment to soulless bloodsuckers constantly after you to spend more and more money.

Anyone excited for RDR2?

I really liked the first one anyway. For me though a lot of Rockstar's games really succeed or fail on story/setting/tone more than actual gameplay so I'll probably wait and see what people say about it before getting it myself.

I'll likely get RDR2. Not sure when though. I have kids so my gaming time is less than it once was. Usually, I wait for a sale. Still debating on waiting for a sale on RDR2 though, I really liked the first one, and the zombie version.

Big time!  I pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition back in July!  Can't wait to play it, the first one was easily one of my all time favourite games!

I'm mildly concerned with the multiplayer/online trend.  I don't care for that style of gaming as I only get to play so often.  I think I'm in the same boat.  Really want it to be good but I think I'm holding off before buying.

Yeah I'm definitely not an online guy. I used to be when I was a lot younger but not really anymore.

I liked RDR a lot but there were aspects of the story that I remember just felt like they were doing things to elongate it. Otherwise I loved it and anything similar should be great. I want to have another game to go through as it only happens once or twice a year that I end up getting a game that I'll actually play through.

Have it pre-ordered. Apparently EB is starting to sell those pre-orders Thursday the 25th @ 9pm. This is good as I'll set the 100 gig download up before I leave for work on Friday.

Well, a lot of the reviews are in and they're certainly impressed with the scope and detail of the game. I'm not 100% sure that what I'm reading makes me want to go out and get it on its first day but I'll be interested to see what people think.

Admittedly, I don't know anything about this stuff, but what's the 100 gig download for!!??

Video games have evolved a bit since pong man.

I haven't really dug deep into the reviews, but most of the ones I've seen have been either 9 or 10 out of 10's and essentially glowing. The only iffy one was Kotaku's, and they seemed to focus quite a bit on the issues surrounding Rocksteady's development of the game so I can't help but feel that influenced their review a bit.

I'll definitely play it but I might wait a month for a Black Friday sale. I just started Assassin's Creed Odyssey the other day so that'll take some time to get through first.

I didn't know the download was for the whole game, I thought it was an update to it...and I'll have you know that I was one of the first in my class to get a Sega Genesis, so there.

I've read Kotaku, IGN, Gamespot and Polygon already as well as the pieces on the game in GQ and The Guardian. Like you say, the reviews that come with a score attached are all high but a lot of that seems to be about the technical merits of the game, the quality of the game's artistic elements and the scale of it.

I guess I'm a bit put off by the questions being raised as to whether or not it's "fun" in a traditional sense.

Even if it was just a rehash of the original, I still can't help but feel what I'd get would be fun.

So I gave in to the hype and went out and bought a PS4 with RDR2 yesterday. Going to get stuck in this evening for a couple of hours and see how it goes

It's a pretty fun game so far but the controls are clunky and it feels slow. I'm enjoying it but RDR felt like something different to me when it came out. This just feels like an extension.

The last game I really properly got immersed in was GTA V so if this is even 50% of that I'll be happy enough I think

To be fair I blew most of my Sunday playing it so I think you'll be ok in that regard lol.
