Yeah, the folks at Microsoft have been saying up and down that they don't even think of Sony as their competition. They're trying to become the Netflix of games and know that most people with a Playstation will still have a PC or even both systems. They just want your monthly subscription fee, I doubt they care much about using games to move hardware the way Sony does with exclusives.

That's always been my stance on consoles.  I never really cared about Halo and initially went with a playstation for the early Blu Ray player and I like their exclusive games.  I have a PC if I want to play other games, not that I have a lot of time to do that so I have been a Playstation person over that.

I switched to Sony after my Xbox 360 red ringed.

I just put an order in for parts to build a PC. It started off because I needed somethng to use for the masters degree I'm starting in May. It ended up being a pretty solid gaming computer.

Hey, that's great. Good luck! What's the subject?

What GPU? Because everything is sold out everywhere.

Radeon RX 5700 XT

Even the some of the more high ones were available, I don't think I would have spent much more than I did on the graphics card.

Oh. That's a mid range last gen card.
The next gen AMD are the 6800 series.
I'm looking for a Geforce 3080, but I can't find them anywhere.

Yeah, I hear those are hard to come by and more than I wanted to spend even if they were in stock everywhere. My old computer was pretty old, I'm coming from a Radeon R9 280X so it's a pretty significant upgrade.

For sure, that will be a huge upgrade.
I'm currently running an i5 7600k with a geforce 1070gtx. Its about 4 years old and only giving me about 90fps~ in warzone.  Desperately need an upgrade so I can get more dubs. But finding a 30 series geforce GPU is impossible right now.
Frustrating!

I went pretty high end on the processor, I got a Ryzen 9 3900X and a 2TB SSD.

Would you get a good enough bump in performance from the just GPU upgrade, or do you need to do more?

That's a good CPU you got, will perform well.
If I only upgraded my GPU I think I would then get bottlenecked by my CPU. Problem is even if I went that route I still can't because they are sold out.
I need an entire new system. Covid threw a wrench into new PC builds for a lot of people.

Update: Yes, GPU's are still basically impossible to get ATM (unless you want to spend double). I tried to preorder from Canada computers and they are no longer accepting pre-orders as they are still trying to fill orders from September.... Basically told me good luck finding a card. Nvidia CFO said a couple weeks ago it's going to be rough for a while....

Sooooo.... I got lucky. Dell had an online sale on Alienware PC's on Feb 4th (not my first choice, I wanted to build my own, but it is what it is), I got $800 off the MSRP price, then during checkout, the Honey app found me another $100 coupon code...

My new system arrived today  :D:

Alienware Aurora R11
i7-10700k
RTX 3080
16GB Dual Channel HyperX Fury @ 3200mhz RAM
1TB NMVe SSD
1TB 7200RPM SATA HDD
Alienware liquid CPU cooling
1000w ATX Modular power supply
Killer Wifi & 5.1 Bluetooth

Can't wait to boot up this beast tonight and play some Warzone!!!

What did that end up being? $2800+ tax or so?

It even seems that the last generation of cards are hard to come by right now too so I'm glad I was able to at least get what I did when I did.

Yes, you were almost spot on. $2779 + tax.
Almost any GPU is impossible right now. They are all over MSRP if you can find one. The custom PC I was going to build would have had almost all the same parts (minus the case, mobo and PSU, I would have chosen something else), for about the same price. I got the Alienware just to get the 3080 RTX.

The parts for mine came to around $2700 tax in.

I'll be able to drop in a 3080 or AMD 6000 series when they become available if I choose. The rest of the specs of mine are pretty good, I mentioned the ryzen 9 and the 2TB SSD, it also has 64GB of ram. Some reviews said the stock cooler for CPU might be good enough, but I didn't like the temperature it was running at so I added a liquid cooler too, it made a big difference.

I'm really late to the party on this, but the scene where Arthur Morgan is riding to camp after freeing Abigail is one of the best I have come across in a game.  Red Dead Redemption 2 sets a really high bar for an open-world RPG.  I'm not saying anything that hasn't already been said about the game.  If you haven't had a chance to check this game out, and you like RPGs, it's amazing.

I think I'm probably one of the few people... But I found the whole game to be massively overrated. Dutch is an idiot who can barely tie his shoelaces together and were supposed to believe he had that kind of group together? Also, since I played RDR1, why should I care about Arthur? He's an outlaw who comes around eventually but so what? You don't really get your vengeance on Dutch because it's saved for JM. And don't get me started on the controls or how long it takes to cook meat or even steal a can of beans.

I agree that the controls a little clunky in places.  I also don't like it when I have to play finger twister on a controller just to perform an action, which I think for some of the sequences you have to do.

Dutch being an idiot plays into the story in my opinion.  The Dutch character is a glorified cult leader who has sold his team on the idea that they are a higher class of criminal.  They group has only made it that far because the skills of the team can overcome his idiocrasy.  I think this is shown in the conversation that plays out early in the game where Arthur asks Dutch what happened in Blackwater, and Dutch responds "We didn't have you Arthur".  It fits with the whole descent in to chaos theme of the game as people start to realize that Dutch is an idiot, and that their whole life has been for nothing.  How you want to play the game determines how that plays out for Arthur to a certain extent and that is difficult to pull off in a game.

When I compare it to something like Fallout 4, which also has a fairly compelling storyline, I feel that the Red Dead Redemption 2 story, and the world is just more meatier, a little more fleshed out, like the Witcher 3.  There are parts that don't fit, like the scene with Arthur and the nun, but overall I thought RDR2 was well put together.
