The Official "What Are You Reading?" Thread

Since Christmas, I've gone on one hell of a Stephen King bender.

I've read (in order) Salem's Lot, The Shinning, Misery, Night Shift, The Long Walk, Different Seasons, Joyland and now am almost finished Pet Semetary.

The only one I didn't like was The Long Walk.... I absolutely loved Salem's Lot and Misery.  Joyland and Pet Semetary are fantastic too.

Going to read The Stand and The Dark Tower series next but man, they are daunting when you look at them as a whole.

Read both the Stand and Dark Tower series (as well as IT and 11/22/63) and they're all damn good books.  Dark Tower series was really good, I was hooked from start to finish read all 7 books back to back.  He recently put out another Dark Tower book (The Wind Through the Keyhole) which is 4.5 in reading order, but not really essential to the overall story.

I feel as though The Dark Tower will consume me for months.

That's pretty much how it was for me.  First book is fairly short but after that each book took me a good couple of weeks to digest which stretched out the series for me to months.

Edit: looked it up.  Started the Gunslinger Jan 4, 2011, finished the Dark Tower March 16, 2011.

"It" is probably my favourite King novel. Ruined the movie for me, though. It just seemed so hollow and lacking after the impressive tome that is the book.

I read the Gunslinger when it came out. Ended up reading it over and over as more books came out. Took years to read them all in the end. I should re-read them.

Due out in November,  "A Great Game: The Forgotten Leafs and the Rise of Professional Hockey"  , a book written by our Prime Minister Harper.  Should make for a great read.

Everyone should read that book. Honestly, you learn so much from it. I downloaded the ibook on my phone just to have it as a reference with me at all times.

Last few I've read:

The Fault In Our Stars (loved it)
The Spectacular Now (it was okay)
The Wedding Night (it was okay - very RomCom)

Went through a phase where I was reading a book a day, but I can't remember which ones they were off the top of my head.

Going to have some down time in the near future and I was thinking about reading Stephen kings Under the Dome.

I havent watched the tv show but I've seen commercials which has got me curious about the book.

Anyone here read it?

I also happened across the audio book which was something like 38hours long and , I think, $44.99...  It's a tempting idea for long commutes but I think I would not enjoy it in the same way and i don't like the price.

It's a Stephen King 'page-turner' if you are familiar with his work. However, the ending is kind of lame.....no - really lame.

The TV show has almost nothing to do with the book - some names are the same, that's all.

I bought under the dome today. Will start reading it on the weekend.

Over 1000 pages! I don't think I've ever read a single book with that many pages. This is the first physical book in quite awhile that I have purchased. I am trying to not have my face permanently attached to my iPad.

What is everyones preference between real books and their digital counterparts?

I absolutely love using an e-ink e-reader over a real book. I love that it's so easy to hold and to use. And when I fall asleep reading and it crashes to the ground, I don't lose my spot in the book!

I don't read enough fiction to use it that much. I read a lot of technical books and they're just not great on an e-reader. Might be better on a tablet though. Love that I can read and e-reader outside in the sun.

I think, Odin, it depends largely on whether one prefers the other or vice versa.  An e-book reader enables one to read just about anywhere, for those who prefer taking their books with them.  One can buy as many as one likes, store them on the reader or it's accompanying SD card (such as the Kobo Glo or Aura have), and read anytime without having to carry said books on their person.

Then again, if one wishes to purchase and read the latest book out, before it even is available in an e-book format, then perhaps it's more exciting that way.

I'm considering buying a Kobo Aura 6.8" e-ink ereader for two reasons: the lower price of e-books and secondly, it'll enable me to read in the dark (the Glo & Aura have the "comfortlight" for night reading (no additional light or lamp required).

I used to buy books, table-top style hardcovers whenever they were discounted in the past but they ended up, after having been read, in a plastic tub somewhere in the basement.  I will be giving what I don't want to keep to some charitable organization.

Another reason I guess for an ereader in future.  :)  Don't get me wrong, I believe in supporting  creativity, but, books per se have become a tad too pricey.  Besides, stop short of turning a home into a mini library!

I finished under the dome today and I agree with your assessment. Great page turner with a lame endng.

Lame ending aside, I did enjoy it, it was hard to put down.
