I'd like to see the how the Leafs record compares to the rest of the NHL for the calendar year 2011.

Anyone know a website that I can see something like this?

I just did it by looking at the Leafs record from Jan 1st last year on their site schedule:

41-27-11 (23-14-3-4 From Jan 1st to the end of last season). Good for 93 points in 79 games for 2011 up until today, not too shabby!

I did the same thing got 42-28-11 for 95 points in 81 games.

Record after the Dec 30th loss to CLB was 13-19-4.

Ending record was 37-34-11, so that makes 24-15-7 from January 2011 to the end of last season and 18-13-4 this year.

24+18=42W
15+13=28L
7+4=11OT

Well, I'm with cw on this. Wilson I just dislike but all that matters are results on the ice. Since he hasn't accomplished anything yet, why extend him now? Once again friendship trumps judgment with bb.

I don't think calling his professional integrity into question because he made a decision you don't agree with is warranted.

When you call out your players for mediocrity, rewarding the coach for below mediocrity seems disingenuous.  Hooray, we are 2 points inside the playoffs for the first time in 4 years under Wilson!!!!!!!!

The January to December Leafs have been much better but THIS season they still have many of the same problems that they always had - specialty teams, inconsistent defensive zone coverage, etc.  The team is better, but I'm really not seeing signs of big progress with the personnel on the team, more so that the overall talent of the team is better.

In the end, it's just money, but I find it just silly that you have a GM who boasts accountability and results, and rewards the coach for not producing them.

My sentiments exactly. Accountability? P-f-f-f-f-f-t. Make the playoffs? No problem. We don't make the playoffs in December.

In the standings, the Leafs are pretty close to the line. If they fall short, what's Burke going to look like keeping a coach after falling short four years in a row or firing him and paying him another three years on a contract he won't have worked a single game for? Not good.

What was Wilson going to do without a deal until the end of the season? He wasn't going anywhere unless he got fired. He was under contract.

Is Wilson so Boman-esque in his coaching abilities that the Leafs would be in a terrible way if he left? I certainly don't think so. there's lots of good coaching candidates.

This is not something I would have done unless the extension is contingent on the team making the playoffs (very doubtful there's a clause like that). It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

The only way this makes sense is if BB didn't want to fight his way thru the crowds to buy RW a gift... he just decided that he could fax him a gift and have MLSE pay for the tab.

Giving someone a new contract when he hasn't shown even a smidgen of ability to improve our special teams over the past 4 years and basically tredding water....just not the message we should be sending the coaching staff or even worse the players themselves.

RW loves to tell media that he has x amount of wins in his career, but he also has more losses then wins. Sorry but he doesn't embody the essence of winning whatsoever imho. I truly hope this isn't a long term deal.

Merry effin Xmas BB.... thanks for putting a damper on it.

All I can do is laugh.  Maybe Burke is trying to top himself; renewing a coach for a long time then missing the playoffs with bottom-feeder PK again would be right up there with trading away the 1st before the season starts and finishing 2nd last. Remember this is the Leafs: we hope for the best but dramatic failure is far more likely.

I know you're not trying to make this point but, I mean, that kind of sucks, no? I mean, it's not terrible or anything but 96 points would have had the Leafs in a three-way tie for 6th last year. If Wilson's strongest argument is that in a stretch encompassing two seasons the Leafs had the record of a team that would have barely scraped into the playoffs, I mean, corporate accountability!

Hey, really sorry you have to deal with something like this on Xmas.  It would be tough on any day of the year, but especially on Xmas.

I really hope you're able to make it through this, we'll all be thinking of you.

If I can't express my opinion without you being a sarcastic ass then you can kiss mine. If I was going to get news of the hockey variety today I would have preferred for it to be good news or at least something that made me smile not cringe at the thought of someone behind the bench who is mediocre at best... And at worst someone who isn't determined to at least figure out what the hell to do about our special teams issues that have been one of our biggest downfalls during his tenure. Don't mistake my post count for me being a casual visitor... I've simply been too busy to post on a reg basis since the db crash.

True, it's pretty amazing how low the bar has been set for this club.

Just hoping you can exercise some perspective on the contract extension of a hockey coach, so that it doesn't 'put a damper' on what is, presumably and hopefully, time that should be happy with family and friends.

I agree with Potvin on this one. If this news ruined Christmas thats pretty sad.

The only way this deal makes any sense to me is if Burke feels confident the players he's provided are garbage.

what's with jumping all over people's posts? I did not read anywhere that he said his Christmas was ruined. I've been going to this site for a very long time now and the last couple years have been awful for people ripping other people views and opinions apart since they disagree with them. Now to me that is sad. It's one thing to disagree its another to be a jackass about it.

Well first off Wilson is a legit NHL level coach, personally I wouldn't describe him as mediocre from that perspective, and, obviously the pk is an issue but if you're going to point to special teams you are also talking about the pp which is 3rd best in the league.

Saying he isn't determined to figure out the special teams is poor on it's own, every coach is determined to do that, whether they succeed or not is another question.

Isn't it only a 1 year extension?  If so, what the heck is the big deal?

Haven't read the details anywhere, a one year extension makes a little bit more sense, still, I don't see the harm in waiting a little longer.

Was this to reinforce something inside the room? I just dunno, the team is improving so that's something I guess.
