Here's a thought: I wonder if we could potentially see players that might get moved at the deadline, like Hall, essentially get pre-quarantined by their teams leading up to the deadline. If he started quarantining a few days before the deadline (or maybe even a full week), would the Leafs then be able to pick him up on a private plane and have him play earlier?

We already see stuff like this sorta happen with players sometimes not playing close to the deadline to avoid injuries.

I'm assuming the 7 day quarantine exemption is going to be once they cross the border so I doubt it.

Yeah, probably not realistic. Buffalo should just send him to a hotel in Toronto a week before the deadline just in case then. It's not like they're using him to win games.

It's not likely to be any different especially given they are already getting an exemption on the 14 day quarantine.

or maybe a guy like Palmieri who Mirtle reported didn't want to waive his NTC for a Canadian team because of quarantine might reconsider with it shortening.

But wouldn't they have to quarantine in the country they're going to? I don't see the gov't caring that Hall quarantined in Buffalo.

How can hall?s remaining salary fit the leafs cap? I don?t get how that would work?

Either have a 3rd team retain a portion of his contract along with Buffalo eating a chunk like the Leafs did in the Lehner to Vegas deal last year, or move Kerfoot in the deal. Ideally the first option.

I'm torn between: woohoo great for the Leafs and ugh private companies lobbying for exceptions to public health directives

Leaning towards the woohoo side given the buttload of testing hockey players have to go through, but that pushes me back towards the ugh because private companies buying up a buttload of tests and associated resources for an entertainment product. But the entertainment product is a diversion for many folks who are going stir crazy hunkering down to keep their friends, families, neighbours safe.
There are so few players crossing the border I think it's moot in a way.

The Preds are still 4 points out of a playoff spot, but they're 5-1 in their last 6 games and the 4th and 5th place teams in the Central (Chicago and Columbus) aren't exactly on a roll. Their next 7 games include: 3 against Chicago, 2 against Dallas (7th in division) and 2 against Detroit (8th in division). So that stretch of games gives them a pretty solid opportunity to jump into a playoff spot. They'd still likely have to face Tampa first round so they should be realistic about their Cup chances but that might still mean they aren't sellers at the deadline.

Scott Laughton would be a perfect addition to this team.

These next two games can be the deciding factor whether Philadelphia decides to move Laughton or not. If they loose both games against Boston, they?re pretty much out of the playoff picture. I still wouldn?t expect Philadelphia to blow it up but considering Laughton is a UFA this off-season, they might be willing to move him for an asset(s).

This would also allow Hyman to rejoin the third line that worked so well while he was on it.

For awhile I kept hearing Laughton's name get brought up but I mistakenly assumed that he was a RFA and didn't really get why Philly would move him. I recently realized he was an UFA recently and he definitely went up on my list. Seems like a grittier version of Kerfoot basically. Good middle-6 guy who can play wing or centre, play PP or PK. The fact that he's a local boy helps too, maybe he'd consider re-signing in the summer if we lost Kerfoot in the expansion draft. Or a plan B if Hyman can't get re-signed (although I do think that'll get done).

I wonder if there's any financial benefit this season to making the playoffs?

Well seeing Nashville has fans, it's a benefit.

This has definitely thrown a wrench into deadline plans around the league, as has, I imagine, the situation in Vancouver (not that they had a ton of exciting pieces, but I'm sure teams were looking at some of their defencemen and depth pieces). The week between now and the deadline is going to have a huge influence on who the sellers in the Central and the West are, and I don't know if we'll see a lot of clarity in the East, either. Right now, the only clear sellers outside the North are Buffalo, Detroit, LA, New Jersey, and Anaheim (and, maybe, Columbus - they're the most borderline team right now, and need a perfect week to not fall off the pace). Everyone else is who might sell is facing a make-or-break type week.
