Told that over the past 36 hours, the dialogue between Parise and Suter picked up considerably

Both Parise AND Suter in Minny?  :o We'll see.

Red Wings have been notified they're out of Parise hunt.

Thought it was foregone conclusion that Detroit was going to get at least one of Suter/Parise.  Now they are going to get neither.

Carle and Semin end up in Detroit. THat's my guess.

I kind of thought Semin would end up in the KHL, but who knows...Detroit just doesn't seem like the kind of system he would fit well in...

Detroit is as good as a guess as any for these two but what about Semin to NJ? Him and Kovalckuk on a line could be scary.

Beauchemin is clearly massively beneficial.  He was turned in to Lupul and Gardiner.  Signing a free agent F and then trading him for players X and Y on other teams that you like more is just as good as signing X and Y from the start.  It is an excellent and necessary way to build the team's talent base.  I'd be perfectly happy if Burke plays the Beauchemin game over and over again several more times.

I'm not sure why the Beauchemin trade and the Beauchemin UFA signing can't be measured separately on their own merits.

Well, the UFA signing provided the assets that were used in the trade.  So that made me happy to have done the signing.  Seems pretty straightforward.

Sure, but they were still two separate transactions that had their own individual merits. Sure, that's simpler but this isn't Hockey Fans 101 here.

Man, they've loading up on d... IMO, it makes the Salo signing the more puzzling... Trade in the works?

I just think that shows how weak their defence was last season. And with Salo and Ohlund being frequently hurt they can use all the depth that they can get back there.
